My parent’s Mazda 6 does that, too. It bothers me a bit every time I go up and visit them. Were it my car, the horn might be disconnected if there wasn’t another way to make it stop (please..., said my best Clarkson voice).

Is it adjustable? Our Camry beeps when you lock and unlock, but in the infotainment menu I can adjust the volume level from no beep to pretty loud and in between. Might be worth checking out.

My wife’s Sable blared it’s horn everytime you lock it, hated it. The Vibe just flashes the Amber lights with no honk. Much better.

Check though the settings in the infotainment screen... I THINK you can change it.

My wife’s CX-5 only honks if you press the lock button a second time. It drives me nuts when she does it though.

Are you using the door buttons or the remote to lock it? I know mine only beeps when I use the door handle button and I can get the horn to sound with the remote. I haven’t looked through my infotainment settings much as I rarely use the keyfob to lock it.

At least they only stole that from GM and didn’t also swipe the whole “30 seconds of reverse lights whenever you use the remote to lock/unlock the car.”

Basically confirming you pushed the button the first time. Shows how insecure we are as a people.

We pretty much only use the fob to lock it, could change our habits I guess. Will look through the manual tonight and see if there is anything.

Ya that is what ours does too, but always seem to hit it twice out of habit, not sure why. Might be because I always push it twice to unlock all the doors.

I just went and played with mine, it seems the horn goes off when you double tap the keyfob button. If I only push it once I get the chirp and not the horn.

The obvious solution is to replace the car’s horn with a train horn, that way everyone knows when you lock the car.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been around American cars my whole life, but isnt it normal for a car to honk when you lock it? Every car my family’s ever owned one hit of the lock button locks it, second hit honks the horn.

I’m curious now. Is the beep to let you know it locked or does it indicate the alarm is armed?

On on BMW, the alarm only armed if I hit it twice. Not sure about my Honda though.

You might be able to change that in the Settings . Or the mechanic might with their interpreter. And if the car is new, I’m sure the Service Department won’t mind accommodating you.

Came here to say clickbaity titles, but you got there before me!

I don’t know why, but I have fantastically low tolerance for cars that beep or whistle or bong or otherwise make irritating sounds at me. I’m only 26 so I hope it’s not because I’m getting old and cranky before my time, but it’s just fantastically irritating.

I’ve only owned a few cars that have done that so far, but each one I’ve ripped the damn little speakers out so they stop irritating me every single time I get in them.

The only exception I’ll make is for headlights after you’ve turned the ignition off. Even then, it’s just utterly inferior to my Alfa which has the headlights on a relay to the ignition switch. Headlights turn off when you take the key out. Simple.

Grumble grumble grognard...

There is so much stupid in this..... As an owner of a CX-5 I can tell you that the honk only happens when you press the lock twice. The first lock noise is a light beep. If you hit it again, you get the honk to let you know, yes it’s locked, in case you didn’t hear that first beep. It’s pretty simple. Tell your husband to stop hitting the lock button twice..morons.

Wow. Thanks for comin g out. Bet you are so much f un at parties!

It doesn’t honk on the first lock and lets out a full blare on the second push to confirm it is locked. Most vehicles I have driven onl y let out a light chirp the second push and not the full power of the horn

So in other cars I’ve had you can turn-off the honk when it locks. Press and hold both the unlock/lock buttons on the key fob for a few seconds or press and hold lock or unlock for a few seconds. Try any combination of that.

Also, did you check the manual? Might be something in the Horn section or Lock/Unlock sections

TIL. I upgraded to dual FIAMM horns on my wife’s ‘09 Fit Sport a few years ago, but little did I know the car uses a separate horn in some mysterious location for the door lock cute horn.

I remember my total look of confusion after installing the new horns and then my wife pushing the remote lock button twice.
