Apparently the US has to wait until 2018 to get the first model from Hyundai’s new N performance brand. The i30 N hatch, which is the Elantra GT here in the US, launches this fall in Europe. N brand chief Albert Biermann has said the next candidate for the N performance treatment and for the US will surprisingly be a next gen of the Veloster. He said it will look similar (which isn’t surprising since you cant really go forward with a design like that) and have the same engine as the i30 N. He also stated that N brand will be exclusive to Hyundai, and wont extend over to Kia or Genesis.
I have high hopes for the N brand, especially considering that Biermann was pulled from BMW M to head N. A new Veloster, which has been seriously lacking in the drive and power department even on the Turbo, should be a welcome entry into a segment that’s really hot right now. What do you guys hope to see from the Veloster N and the N brand overall?

All the info about the i30 N up to this point was talking about how it would not be sold in the US and Korea and that the next N model for those markets would be something different.
Since these spy shots seem to indicate a Veloster N, I suppose that confirms the existence of a Veloster N, and maybe the fact that it is the first N model for the US.

I had been reading so much contradictory stuff about the N cars that I didn’t know what to believe. To me though, most things hinted that the i30 N would be here in the US and would maker the Elantra GT a proper Elantra GT. Those spy shots though do confirm a Veloster N, along with me reports of Veloster prototypes all over Hyundai’s Namyang complex, from engineering, to the proving grounds to test studios.

Albert Biermann mentioned at the Paris show there that the i30 N would not be sold in the US or Korea and a different model would be for the US and Korea.
At the time Car & Driver guessed that meant an Elantra N for the US but it could also be the Veloster.

Hey LJ909, honest question time. Did you get the idea for your Focus RS article from reading TTAC, or is it just a circumstance that your Focus RS post happened after TTAC’s Focus RS post? I see you also did a Chevy SS post after the Focus post, and don’t see a similar post over at TTAC, so I’m inclined to think it was a coincidence.

No I got my idea from his article and since car stuff like this is regional, I decided to look in my area and found out its the truth. What made me want to look into this even close is the fact that we have some of the top Ford dealers here in SoCal and with 2 of them have 12 and 15 RS’s, I looked. Saw that most of them have over 170 days of lot time and here we are.

I personally don’t have a problem with you taking inspiration from articles on other platforms (hell damn near all Jalopnik articles and TTAC articles are similar anyway), but in the future you need to have enough of a different slant to to keep accusations of plagiarism away. Or, reference the article you read in your own post and expand upon in.

I thought it was different enough. Especially with me doing my own research into it. I could see if it was word for word. But it wasn’t. I did mean to reference the article though but I wrote it in a rush (hence a lot of the spelling mistakes). Are you an Oppo moderator or something?

I think if you had remembered to reference the TTAC article (or link to it) everything would have been fine, hell that’s all Jalopnik and TTAC ever do (recycle news). There shouldn’t be an issue going forward if you reference your “inspiration” or source for expanding on previously written content. You did get a shitload of views on that article, so it seems people like your writing. The only reason this came up is because Mark Baruth tweeted about it.
Also, yes, I’m one of the more active mods. Others include Dusty, Archduke, ForSweden (he’s the worst), Yamahog, etc. There’s a list somewhere but I don’t recall. Try searching for the handbook, that might have the whole roll.

Yea I’ll remember next time. Like I said I just didn’t because I was in a hurry. I’m glad people like my writing though. I do it just as a hobby. Something will pop in my head usually and Ill get on Oppo and start writing. Didn’t mean to cause any trouble though. And thanks for letting me know who you and the other mods are.

I don’t, hence my gray status. A friend alerted me to this post, so I responded to being called a “whiner.” If being offended that somebody ripped off my editorial makes me a whiner, then I’m guilty as charged.
Someday, perhaps an original idea will enter Mr. LJ909's head, and maybe then he’ll know how it feels when a hack copies it.
