It’s not the Type R that everyone is drooling over, but getting to see a 2017 Honda Civic Si with a mere 59 miles hooked up to the dyno is still pretty cool! Local upstate NY tuners Quantum Raceworks posted this dyno graph on their Facebook page as a baseline, showing some pretty decent numbers for the little 4-banger.

What’s even more impressive is that with just a base tune they’re already reporting an additional 20-30ft/lb of torque!

****Update****

On an otherwise stock car, with no compromises on longevity, reliability or ease of dailying, they got +60ft/lb of torque and +50hp!

That’s a good power curve. I bet it’s fun to thrash it up to redline despite not being a VTEC engine.

Not bad. Now if they could just show up in dealerships here already...

Drove one today. It was pretty good, the shifter is super good, the clutch is meh, and the supension change in sport mode is noticable which is a good thing. The power felt nice and linear. Still going to have to go with a GTI instead, the Honda is a close second for me.

Doesn’t really surprise me, Honda admitted that they tuned it for longevity, not power. I bet you can get some pretty decent numbers with upgrades

I’m always a fan of the sport button doing more than changing the sound and letting it rev a little higher.

Why are 4 doors so popular with the sporty car crowd? I bought the Si because it is the only coupé in the segment and price.

Know that shop and know the owner personally. Not surprised he got the car for it’s first dyno run, given the shop has one of the only four wheel dyno setups around.

I’ve seen some awesome stuff come through that shop...he’s even worked on Shea Racing’s World Challenge Accords. I’ve spotted their trailer there.

There’s usually a lot of awesome stuff there, from JDM Skylines to a green 914 with a stinger exhaust. And they do some pretty awesome work. The guy has some serious skills.

How do you know increasing the power won’t impact longevity or reliability on parts designed to handle less?

Because a manufacturer doesn’t build a car’s engine and tune it to its’ limits. I’m positive Honda designed the parts to be able to easily withstand greater than stock horsepower and I’m positive the tuner was very conservative with their adjustments.
