Kinja'd!!!

As part of our epic driving vacation this year, my father suggested that we swing through the Flint Hills to see the last remaining swath of tallgrass prairie. We’d be coming from Hannibal, MO, and after an earlier stop in St. Louis to see some of the Lewis & Clark stuff, seeing pristine prairie might be interesting. Has anybody been there to recommend or not?

National Tallgrass Prairie Preserve near Strong City is about as good as it gets.

(Camp Wood YMCA down the road shares the landscape, and is cheap to stay at)

Thanks. I’d like to see the prairie before it’s covered with oil wells.

We’re fighting that hard, but our governor is a dipshit.

(My project is also at Camp Wood so I’m somewhat biased)

Check this out. “The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is the largest preserved tract of native tallgrass prairie.” Owned by the Nature Conservancy.

As I drive through rural Texas, I see lots of ranches for sale. I wish I had the money to buy them and just let them go back to nature.

I’m really hoping that Ted Turner will eventually turn all of his land over to a conservation group that will allow public access.
