Kinja'd!!!

I’ve been seeing this Mercedes 200 Diesel at work semi-often lately. I have a moral objection to roof racks but otherwise dig it. It has Michigan plates on it and we have another location in Michigan, so if it’s someone from there who road tripped it here they earn back some points they lost with the roof rack.

What’s slower; on old diesel Benz, or an anvil cemented into the ground?

It’s close, but I’m voting Benz.

Not that I don’t like old Benz’s, my Mom had a 62' fintail growing up and it was a neat car. I never drove it, but it had a 4 cylinder gas engine and it would scoot along pretty good.

EDIT: For my crappy memory. The 62' Benz sedans had inline 6 cylinder’s, (with 95 smokin’ HORSEPOWER) not 4 cylinders.

In euro hotrod fantasy land, this needs an AMG swap.

Might have just taken a ferry, I wouldn’t want to drive that thing through Chicago.

I suppose I should’ve mentioned that our Michigan location is in upper Michigan.

A 62 could be a W110 (4 cyl) or W111/112 (6cyl). Wide range of power, from about 50hp in a 190D to about 180hp in a 300SE.

Nice year of manufacture plates. With sidemarkers, this appears to be a 1968 model, the final run of W110 before W114/115 took over.

These always seem to go around the headlights in harsh climates.

One of AMGs earliest conversions was a W110 fintail:

I think Rote Sau predates the fintail in conversion, but the fintail is a street car.

I’m pretty sure it was a 220. Can’t recall the exact model though. I do remember it was green with a green leather interior and it smelled wonderful.

There were 3 220 badged cars - a 220 with single carb, 220S with dual carbs, 220SE with FI. HP ranged from around 100 to maybe 130, respectively.

The leather combined with the horsehair/laminated straw seat stuffing and the wood trim definitely has a smell.
