Honestly, it gives me some insight on how the militant extreme left thinks and feels. They won’t say what they’re thinking in public to others (because who’s going to tell a coworker that they’re happy that some random person they’ve never met was shot because they have a different political ideology?), but they’ll say it under the guise of anonymity. Many are trolls, but some are sincere.

Crazy...I always try to represent exactly who am I online (despite anonymity, I still have a reputation and character at stake — almost 15 years on Gawker sites). But I think you’re right. It’s disturbing to me in part because I live in a pretty low-key, right-wing area where “social justice issues” aren’t exactly at the forefront of daily conversation. So to me, reading some of the stuff on Jez and Fusion comes across like the left’s answer to the “alt right” (which I also eschew completely). It’s sort of funny how claiming you’re an SJW or “inclusive” somehow permits you to promote hateful ideals. It seems to be more accepted these days, especially in reaction to Trump lately.

I am who I am, whether it be online or IRL. I like to joke around, sometimes with profanity, but I’m generally a level-headed moderate who prefers to see both sides of a debate before throwing my two cents in (you learn more by listening than you do speaking). I don’t have any deep-seeded dark thoughts about any side, as I prefer rationality to knee jerk spouts.
Jez and Fusion lean to the far left, but generally stay away from the ultra extremist views. If I agree with something they state, I comment. If I don’t, I stay quiet, roll my eyes, and switch sites. No biggie.
Being a feminist isn’t extreme; being a staunch third wave feminist is. Being a nationalist (buy American, take care of American problems first) isn’t extreme; being a nationalist racist is. The problem these days is that more people on the left are emotionally attached to labeling the other side with despicable titles (racist, fascist, neonazi, etc) than people on the right are (commie, man-hating feminist, etc).
I like Rodney King’s take on it all: can’t we all just get along?

I just watched the “LA 92" documentary, so Rodney is fresh in my mind. Highly recommended, I think one of the streaming services has it. I was 13 at the time, so the riots didn’t register high in my consciousness.
