The rebel 250 wouldn’t idle without choke. The intake being clogged with wasp nest might explain that. Now to figure out the starter...

it no work. Push start button, get nothing. It worked, then I got a new battery to replace the dead one, it worked for ten minutes then stopped turning over. Bypassing the solenoid doesn’t work so I’m going to take it apart until I can get to the starter, try powering the starter directly, and if that works I’ll work backwards and check the wiring, etc.

And everything else turns freely? You should be able to turn over the motor in first (either on the center stand or push start).

Yes, we tried to push start it but it’s a dirt road so the tire didn’t quite grip well enough. Engine turns freely though.
