I’ve concluded that my engine is down on power. Unable to pass a car in front of me despite getting much better exits at the hair-pin, and being 4.5mph slower than the fastest cars in the speed trap. But it’s hard to be frustrated when you’re racing at an F1 event.

are you down, or are they “finding power” by “getting creative” with how they are interpreting the rules?.........

They’re finding power by sending their engine to an engine builder. The rules are pretty strict about what you can do, it’s just a matter of dishing out the cash to get my own engine re-built.

its no fun spending that money to be competitive.......buying the lightest rotating assembly, and milling everything past the edge of its life, grinding and porting, balancing.......

Yup, but it looks like it must be done. Fighting for 18th place isn’t much fun! My next race is in 5 weeks, I’m not sure if that’s enough time to do the work but I’m giving it a go.

is there a possibility that it was just a track that was just not letting you take advantage of your car’s strong suits? like say if your car is great at coming out of corners, and being stuck on a track that doesnt have many of them, and is built for more top speed gearing? any way to tweak the power(timing/fuel) curves to move where you are making your peak power at? or are you already getting as much as you can?.........

Hmm, that’s a good question. But there have been other instances at other tracks where I should have walked away from anther driver but he would catch and overtake me on the straight. The draft has a big effect on these cars but my advantage was so big that I should have stayed ahead regardless.

The rules are so restrictive that you can’t really do anything other than send it to a professional engine builder. No messing with the engine maps or anything. The pros know what they are and aren’t allowed to do. Sucking it up and shelling out the cash is pretty much all you can do.
