Cheap Cars with Cooled Seats

I am looking ahead at my next daily. Eventually will sell the FoST and get something boring and cheap to put miles on. I’d like another hatchback or slightly bigger sedan. Diesel/long range on a tank would be ideal. I think I have added another big selling point, cooled seats. Google and other website lists tell me Kia carries them in a lot of cars. I will take a look at them, but not sure if a Kia is what I want. So, what oddly cheap cars have cooled seats? A Cruze Diesel Hatch with cooled seats would be good.

In case you’ve been living under a rock or not reading Wobbles’ posts here, Kia is making very nice cars these days. Far and away better than a GM vehicle.

Better than the Cruze, but Wobbles is also heavily biased. You can tell where they cut corners to produce such a “nice” product on that budget.

Saab 9-5s had ventilated seats on the upper trim levels

Have not paid much attention to Kia. I have kept an eye on Hyundai though, I like the Genesis, both coupe and sedan. Kia price is right, more money for the toy cars. It’s too bad the Forte doesn’t get better mpg or bigger tank. But I do like the looks of the Kia Forte5 SX w/ cooled seats for ~$24k.

Edit: Woahhhhh, a manual is a $2,200 option. Yikes.

Not living under a rock, am living on the road a lot though. Might as well be the same.

I experienced cooled seats for the first time today and they are a gift from god.

Don’t dismiss Kia. They’ve come a long way since the 90's. I put almost 1k miles on a rental Optima recently and it was a fine vehicle. I’d take one over a Camry in a heartbeat.

Bought the wife a ‘13 MKZ with cooled seats. 2.0 ecoboost, pano roof, some slick wheels, it’s a pretty fun car for an automatic when in sport mode :-)

Used/CPO they can be had pretty damn cheap now, and typically low miles/cherry as people tend to lease them. Her 55k sticker MKZ was just under 20 as a CPO 2 years old and under 20k miles. Lincoln’s CPO gives you 100k mile bumper to bumper with a $100 deductible after 60k miles...

Cooled seats are far nicer to have then a rear view, heated seats, blind spot monitoring, and more combined. I will look at Kia’s as a couple people have said that. A base model, 400+ mile range without a CVT, with cooled seats would make me happy.

I remember randomly many years ago my snobby uncle had a Cadillac DTS rental car when he was visiting my parents at the same time I was visiting them, because he couldn’t just rent a regular car, he needed the fancy rental car. It had cooled seats. I’m sure you could find like an ’08 DTS for mad cheap now.

The Optima I had was a 4cyl with a 6spd automatic and it was giving me a 550 mile range estimate at one point. I never checked what year it was but it was the current gen.

If you can wait, the Elantra GT Sport will be the hatchback to get when it comes out in a few months.

Have two Kias in the family now, both with ventilated seats (no one makes actual refrigerated seats that I know of; they just suck the air-conditioned air from the foot well and push it up through the seat). They are wonderful. But, you can still buy a cheap old car and have them. Buy something like this .

I never really noticed. Their products are so much better than so many manufacturers when compared to the same class that I can’t think of any plebeian cars that are much nicer. They just do an amazing job.

I prefer my daily to be newish so that led me to cheap. I bought my Focus new so I’m ok with that. Car would be getting A to B comfortably without stopping all the time. Both not things my Focus does. Then the money and work goes into my Camaro, shared 350Z, or what replaces the Camaro. I’m worried an old Cadillac or Saab mentioned by someone else would take away time and effort.

How much time have you spent in one? My Mom’s 2.5 year old Azera(current generation) has more squeaks, rattles, flimsy plastic, and dealer involved issues than my FiST that has double the miles and stickered at nearly half the price.

If you don’t care about looking like a retiree; Lucernes, Avalons, MKZ’s, and Es350's are under 12k with cooled seats.

My grandma’s 09 Hyundai Genesis sedan had a cooled driver’s seat (passenger was only heated) and they’ve fallen below $10k now

Are you looking at a new car or used car?

For used, a good way to check is to go to the carmax website and use that to find the cheapest cars with specific features, if if you don’t buy the car from them. They are far better than any manufacturer or even car-shopping website at aggregating data like that, if only unintentionally through current inventory. This link should show you the cheapest used cars with cooled seats, and then you can further refine the results to find makes/models that fit your requirements: https://www.carmax.com/cars#Distance=all&ExposedCategories=249+250+1001+1000+265+999+772+266&ExposedDimensions=249+250+1001+1000+265+999+772+266&Page=1&PerPage=20&Refinements=823&SortKey=14&Zip=12345

So you can see that an the Buick Lucerne, Toyota Avalon, Lexus ES, Kia Optima, Lincoln MKZ, Cadillac CTS, Lexus IS, Infinity M35, Ford Taurus, Kia Forte, Kia Sportage, or Volvo S80 are probably the cheapest ways to get your butt in a cooled seat that’s less than 10 years old. You’d probably have to check carefully for options and trim if you’re looking at any of those cars for a private sale or other dealer to get a car with the ventilated seats though.

I couldn’t find any evidence that the new Chevy Cruze comes with ventilated seats, but I didn’t look very hard so I could be wrong.

As for new cars, Kia Forte and Kia Soul have got to be the cheapest, possibly by a wide margin. Up from there probably Ford Fusion which comes out to just under $30k MSRP.

There are a bunch of cars costing $31k to $33k MSRP with cooled seats including the Chevy Malibu, Kia Optima, Hyundai Sonata, and most notably the Mustang EcoBoost premium. With the refreshed mustangs coming out later this year, the EB premium might be realistically one of the cheaper cars with cooled seats on dealer lots right now.

Would have never though of Carmax for research and see the general picture. Ideally new or still new enough to be under warranty. Thank you. My thought in cheapest car was cheapest new car but that won’t be set 100%.
