I’m writing a tire review on my computer since typing on a physical board is nice. Things are progressing well, and decide to break it up with some photos. I add photos and Google Chrome crashes. Probably won’t even be able to save what I’ve written.

If I’m writing anything worth reading or in excess of a paragraph or so, I’ll always start in google docs. Autosave is a life saver, plus I don’t trust kinja’s drafts or that my publication will still exist in a few years.

Sucks! After enough experiences like that, I started writing my drafts on a local tool which is backed up in real time to Dropbox.

I believe our IT department has blocked photo uploads to Kinja. Posting from my laptop works fine at home, but at the office it won’t upload a photo, even if I’m using a link to a third-party site. If I’m posting from work, I have to start the post on my phone, add in any photos, save it to drafts, then open it in Chrome on my laptop to add in any verbiage. The weird thing is that I can attach YouTube videos without any problems.

Go figure.

I had that problem and I think it ended up being the Privacy Badger Addon. But yes, when in doubt blame IT.

Yeah, they’re fucking around under the hood again. Best wait until they’re finished before trusting anything.

As much as people like to shit on Kinja, there is a feature that has saved my ass numerous times when writing a long-form post like my aviation history series. Whenever the browser crashes or some other horrible thing happens, I relaunch then start a new post. Kinja then asks if I want to recover what I was working on. That usually restores everything that was written before the browser crashed.

As an extra backup, though, I routinely select all the text, copy it, and paste it somewhere, like a new mail message window. Then I can recover most of it from there in case of disaster.

My fed.gov also blocked photo uploads. There’s certificate trust issues with logging into the site, too.

No extensions to mess with it here. Besides, it works fine when I take my work laptop home.
