since I was curious about nabbing a car for >$1000 (it could happen) not as many candidates as I would have hoped, but I am hoping that it will draw a different crowd and maybe I can get my hands on these for cheap:

There is supposed to be an in person auction at the place, I have no idea how that is supposed to work with the online bids. they should be adding 300 some more cars for day 2, it will be under a different auction listing.

I was considering going, but I couldn’t get off work to go. I’m trying to start a list of things I’d like to bid on so I can rank them to determine if I’m going to make a truly competitive bid on any or hope for something to just go cheaper than I’d expect. I fully expect to finish empty handed but don’t want to get enough deals to kill my bank account.

I’ve never seen so many Volkswagon Beatles for sale in one place. And one of the first cars I clicked on was a ‘1964 Pontiac Tempest 2 door hardtop’ that was actually a 1962 Tempest 2 door sedan.

I’m a fan of 50's cars but a couple you posted would appeal to me. I’m definitely interested in the 56 Desoto Sedan I saw but I’m less than halfway through the list.
I also like oddball cars so the Crosleys, King Midgets, and Pulse Litestar speak to me too.
I’ll probably also bid on a scooter or moped.

I immediately noticed a 1958 Packard 2-door hard top mislabeled as a Packard Hawk... Completely different cars...
VanDerBrink put on an auction for a good friend of mine’s family. His father had a collection of 30-something ‘65 and ‘66 Impalas, and several other cars. They got the family hyped up about how much they would get for their cars, advertised the sale poorly, and the turnout was nowhere near what was promised. I got the feeling they just didn’t know what they were doing at all.

That’s sad - - I’m sure they paid VanDerBrink a lot of money and didn’t get what they were promised. Whatever the Hackenberger family is paying for this, they ought to at least be able to get the spelling and facts right. It’s not that hard.
In the case of the Packard and the Tempest, it’s pretty easy to spot that the facts are wrong - but if you’re just skimming quickly, and looking for something specific, you’re liable to miss what you’re looking for. You never know — it might be a potential buyer that misses it.

Indeed. My friend (the son) and I had a lot of good memories messing around with all those cars... It was pretty sad when the first car- a ‘65 SS 327/4-speed car- went for $850. It didn’t get better from there.

The cars were all Minnesota cars and quite a few had frame rust, but that one wasn’t rotted. The most expensive car of the day was his dad’s only restored car- a ‘65 SS convertible 396/4-speed in Evening Orchid. It sold for $8k to what sure looked like a drug dealer from St. Louis, complete with gold chains and an entourage of scantily clad women. He paid in $20 bills. It pains me to think where that car ended up.

Shit - that’s a beautiful color, and the 1st year for the 396. A very nice combo. Impossible to say what it was really worth without a better look, but I’d be pretty surprised if it wasn’t worth *at least* double that.
