For whatever reason I watched it again, great way to procrastinate, right?

If you have never watched it, here you go:

I’m definitely going to have to drive the route myself someday. Maybe not at this speed, though. Just have to get a nice car to do so, oh and a girlfriend to drive to. I’m working on obtaining (not meant to objectify, couldn’t think of another word) one of those two, no comment on which one, haha.

Which car would Oppo choose to re-enact this awesome drive?

You need to drive the slowest, crappiest car possible and put it on video. Then still dub it over with the same engine noises from the video. Since that would hold true to the original anyways!

I really am surprised there arent remakes of this video (even if it were at much more legal speeds). I just would like to see the EXACT route portrayed in modern day traffic.

So I need to take the Twingo? It’s not too crappy, but it sure is slow, and French! I’m sure it would take quite some work to get the audio right, but then again the Ferrari’s sound isn’t nicely synced to the movie either.

I think Alex Roy drove the full route (or at least the parts that are still drivable in the same direction) in his documentary:

But they do not show all of the driving. So yes, it would be nice if somebody drove the full thing in modern day traffic and recorded it.

Based on the absence of reactions from the pedestrians. I’m going to assume this is just how French people normally drive.

The speed is somewhat reasonable (ignore the Ferrari dub); it’s the ‘never stopping’ part I find seriously impressive. The Louvre arches are hairy too: Lelouch had posted an accomplice with a radio on the exit to warn for traffic, as it’s totally blind, but afterwards it appeared the radio didn’t work. Amazing bit of film all around, there was a great article about it in GTO magazine many years ago.

As for the car: S600/63/65 is probably closest to the 6.9.

Haha, I asked our resident Parisian Clemsie McKenzie about the driving and parking in Paris. He said he prefers to take public transport within the city, and if I recall correctly he said he rather not takes the car into the city at all.

Yep, the never stopping is the impressive part. In a making-of made 40-ish years after the movie Lelouch said that was part of the idea, because a guy driving to his girlfriend will do crazy things.

He had quite a bit of luck, the intersection in which he crossed behind the Mini was also quite a close call.

And yes, a modern big Benz would be very fitting.
