ya know what grinds my gears?
I am grey on all the lesser sites, gizmodo, deadspin, etc etc (I’m on full dark grey, verging on blacked out on jez); but if an article from one of those sites is shared to Jalopnik I should inherit non-greyness so I can comment on that article.
The act of sharing it to another site should make the article adopt that site’s commenting permissions.
that is all. nothing will change. I’ll stop complaining about these free sites.

Somehow, I became approved on Jezebel well before being approved on Jalopnik, despite having three CoTDs. I think it’s because I made a comment comparing the hypothetical penis sizes of Idris Elba and Donald Trump, which was one of maybe five comments I ever made on Jez.

I’ve had multiple CoTDs, and still find myself in the greys on Jalopnik too, shouldn’t a CoTD get you a perma non-grey status? :P

Our Jalopnik overseers are fickle masters. I’m pretty sure I only got approved because I commented how much I loved Tom Scocca’s Cadillac review, despite every other commenter pissing and moaning about it.

It’s too bad there aren’t moderators to help out with this. It’s up to the blog authors to manually “approve” commenters one-at-a-time. And that’s a big burden, especially when you’re busy trying to put together the next article.
They can hardly even keep up with their notifications, to the point where some don’t even try. Some authors will monitor the first few minutes of comments, but there comes a point when you just have to close the tab and get back to work.
I wouldn’t mind helping out a little in my spare time, but as it is, there are only a few blogs where I can ungrey single comments by star or by reply.

It gotten worse recently. When I first started commenting on Jalopnik I was going through burners every couple months, but I could get out of the greys within a few weeks (The key is to comment to people’s comments so they bring you out, you don’t have to get the attention of someone reading the greys.)
A month or two ago I made a new burner on my phone (I wrote down the passcode so that I can unite my PC and mobile accounts.) Still not out of the greys on Jalopnik or even Oppo. I used to get out of the greys on Oppo after like six comments. I guess I’ll just apply for authorship on it.

I used to be non-grey on Jalopnik but that first major update after the Univision takeover made me grey.

I think that if you’ve been a kinja member for long enough you should exit the greys on all kinja sites till you get reported enough on one site and you get greyed there again.
