(I’m pretty sure) The process of buying and moving in is over and that makes me want to do things to it.

Kinja'd!!!

add some sort of water filter to the kitchen sink. Any recommendations on what to do?

Yesterday it was 95 out. The house was hot but the basement was cool. It has a forced hot air system. I was wondering what it would take to blow the cold air from the basement up through the ducts to cool of the house. The basement is somewhat damp so I’m guess I’d need an air filter or something.

I have a full basement finally. I thought I could set my shop vac up to the dust collector on my miter saw and work in the basement but I was wrong. I need more outlets down there, right now there is only 1 quad box.

put sump pump in the basement to keep it dry

put up a key rack so we stop losing our car keys

take up carpet at entry and tile it. It would meet up to the kitchen, i don’t want to tile the whole kitchen but I think it may look odd having two tiles next to each other but that carpets gunna get nasty real quick with 3 kids and a winter.

New faucet for the kitchen sink

Remove wallpaper from dining room and kitchen and paint it. Maybe take down the half wall between the two.

Take down the wall paper over the shower and tile it. (really take down the wall paper that is on every single f’in wall but that will get done over time)

cut off the bottom of the deck posts and add blocks ot keep them out of the dirt.

remove some plants and replace with grass. there is just far too much for me to keep up with.

get a cheap ride-on mower

get a cheap F-150 or Ranger for dump runs and snow days.

take down baring wall

add a second floor over the family room

add a 2 car garage

This is my rig:

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a semi custom 7 stage system:

1: sediment filter

2: GAC (Granular active carbon) filter

3: GAC filters

4: post carbon filter

5: RO (Reverse osmosis)  membrane

6: DI (DeIonizing) Mixed Bed Resin Cartridge

7:Alkaline Replacement Filter Cartridge with Calcite & Mineral balls

You need to run a Alkaline replacement filter POST DI if you intend to drink the water. I run this all to a 5gal pressurized bladder tank under the tun with a inline UV light between the tank and the tap to ensure it stays clean and pure and nothings growing or living in the line from the tank to the faucet.

IS this system over kill? Sure maybe but it only coast me about 200 to build and about 80 bucks a year to maintain and my water is literally more pure than 99% of bottled water and tastes great! be for the alkaline filer I have zero TDS and zero PPM of contaminates.

No advice on what filter to get, but just my experience:

We used to use a Brita filter jug. Then we got a filtered tap. It was much better.

The we got a fridge with a filtered water tap. I don’t think we’ve touched the regular filtered tap since.

Filtered fridge water>filtered tap>Brita jug>tap water

Oh and for cooling. Get an attic fan and suck from the top..

It does get noisy though... not something you’d want running all the time.

I’d say get a Brita jug and save for the fridge, but that’s just me.

Congrats, that’s exciting! We’ve been in our house 8 years and had a similar list to yours, of course - the New House Punchlist. We’re getting down there to the bottom where you have “2 car garage” at this point. Maybe in another year or two it will become reality.

My only thought is to put your punchlist into some digital or other task-oriented tracking system so you can prioritize, add/edit/delete as needed. I kept a paper list posted on a bulletin board for years, from our initial move-in. It took me 5 or 6 years to finish it, but I did! Now I use a free online thing called Producteev. I use it for household to-do lists, but also for vehicle maintenance to-do lists, and now for just about anything where I have a checklist in my head.

I’m sure you have your systems being a generally motivated professional, as far as I can tell. But I’m just throwing out what’s worked for us.
