Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I took this picture of the little work shed that attaches to my doomed carport.

I have 2 license plates in there, both worn by my 1987 Acura Integra LS 4 door hatchback. (RIP) It wore the Vermont plate in law school, and I left in spring of 1997, before the tag was up. It was so beat when I got rid of it, almost nothing worked.

The driver side power window would not close all the way, but that was ok, because only hot air would blow from the vents. Its alloy wheels were long since gone, and it sported a sweet (cheap) set of steelies. It was covered in dents, scratches, and cracks, and after a couple of years in Vermont, probably the beginnings of some nasty rust, as I never washed it.

Have you kept remembrances of your old cars?

I have the passangers side mirror from my Explorer. I got a replacement from the junkyard and was like I should keep this.

I’ve kept a few. Have a hubcap off a 1975 Suburban I had, Grand Am logo off my first car, Ram hood ornament from my Ramcharger and probably some others I can’t recall.

I rarely wash my Accent, to be honest, but I do get it undercoated every single year to try and keep rust from forming - so far, so good or so the mechanic told me at my last oil change. I haven’t spotted any rust on the bodywork anywhere yet either!

Currently I still have the old sunvisor from it I just replaced a bit ago, and I will have a drivers’ side headlight in a few weeks as well....

I have a chip of tailight lens from our old 1993 Dodge Caravan we had when I was a kid - the chip came when mom was moving it around the back yard where we usually parked at our first house, got into some slippy mud and slid it into the house....house was fine, but it broke the taillight on the van...

When I sell a car, I try to get rid of everything that goes with that vehicle, unless it’s applicable to my next car. But I did keep the hood ornament and a set of keys from my crashed Oldsmobile Delta 88 before letting the junkyard have their way with it.

Other than that, I do have some old plates. Nice thing about those is that they don’t take up much room at all, so I don’t mind being a little sentimental there.

I have a headlight cover from my first car (it had hidden headlights behind flip down doors), an ‘89 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo. I just this weekend was given the squashed front license plate and license plate holder from my ‘94 Buick Roadmaster. They got ripped off when I stuffed it in the dirt at a rallycross last year. A track worker found them months later and saved them for me. I was thrilled to get them back.

I also have all the license plates from all my vehicles.

I’ve usually kept the license plates of my old cars and nail them to the wall in the garage.
