This bulb burned from dusk until dawn for over three years.
(And not a bad picture by the Nexus 5 potatocam...)

When we first moved into our new (to us) house, the first thing I did was replace a ton of older CFLs with some cheap LED bulbs. So much brighter. That’s mainly the reason I did it - I wanted something brighter, especially in the garage. A single CFL bulb in a -20 degree garage in the dead of winter isn’t very bright - the LEDs were amazingly brighter.
Where’d you have that thing installed that caused it to run for 3 years?

In front of the house, lighting the driveway. Dusk to dawn. LEDs are coming down in price and CFL is disappearing. The CFL bulbs throw quite a bit of light for the wattage they consume, but LEDs are more efficient. I was told by an electrician that LEDs succumb to being turned off and on.

I think it might depend a lot on the LED itself. The only time I’ve seen an LED burned out is because they were pumping too much voltage through it.

I recently got a 2 pack of Philips LED bulbs for 10 bucks at Home Depot.

They’re getting much more affordable. CFL has largely disappeared.

I remember just a few years before the CFLs were supposed to be the bees knees.

I think they were, but LED is now.
