We get west coast sunsets in the Midwest too.
Took my boys camping all weekend at Warren Dunes , MI. Awesome weekend! It was our first time up there, and I will definitely be back to spend some time in New Buffalo and St. Joseph’s

.5 miles down the beach from Warren Dunes (where my wife said “Yes”) is where I spent almost every summer of my life. It used to not be trendy, haha.

It’s a land-bound body of water... in order to see that sunset, he must be on the east coast of the lake looking west.

While the definition could be argued, “coast” typically refers to the sea or ocean. He may be on the east shore, but the view he is describing is similar to a sunset on the west coast of America.
