...go read some of the comments on that fatal crash post on the FP. I didn’t watch it; wish I wouldn’t have given the post a click, either, but was hoping to see more push back in the comments against showing a fatal wreck just for... for what? Entertainment? It’s sick.

This has been a problem on FP for years. Why people are so fascinated with watching other people die is beyond me.

I’ll pass. I don’t need to see that crap.

I don’t think it clicks for most people that the person is dead. We have such a disconnect through video that it’s like any other form of entertainment when a person dies.

I guess I was right not to click then?

Morbid curiosity. It’s deeply woven into media consumption in the USA.

I remember watching faces of death back when I was in high school and at first it didn’t seem so bad, then as we watched more it became wierd because you were thinking that since I’m seeing this they might be okay right? But then it sinks in that all the images are from people that died. It got weird for sure. I wouldn’t watch any of those videos nowadays, but that was back when I was young and dumb.

Briefly skimmed the article. Seriously disappointed with just posting it to post it. It seemed that there wasn’t really a lesson to be learned from it but they just wanted views which I unfortunately contributed to.

FP, right? Not clicking there solves many a problem.

All that I learned was maybe being a 62 year old doctor in Japan might be stressful.

I think it’s deeply woven into the human brain, not just the media we consume. Since death is both mysterious and inevitable, it would be a lot weirder if we weren’t curious about it. That said, being curious about death in general doesn’t mean you’ll catch me watching it.

Didn’t click the story. I have no desire to watch people die.

Good for you. Neither do I. Like I said, was just hoping for more push back. Clearly I’m expecting too much from the Jalop commentariat.

Yeah, if there’s a “don’t do this so you don’t kill yourself or others” message involved, I can understand it. Really it was just “hey guys, this guy died! check it out!”.
