And only 8 Oppo members were brave enough to sign up. Sad. 6 different nationalities though. Starting with an optional Biergarten visit in Munich tonight, the 22th of June, we’ll leave for Austria and Italy on Friday. Saturday will be Italy and Switzerland and on Sunday it’ll be Italy, Switzerland and Austria. The two pictures feature both hotels we’ll be staying at in Italy.

Interesting tidbit: if we ignore the rental there are 4 RWD cars and 1 FWD car on that list. The FWD one is easily the fastest and the most French.

Only your flight will be expensive. The first hotel is €30 a person, the second <€50. Including breakfast. Both are 4 star hotels.
(Member-edit: The costs of that one hotel went down per person after I upgraded one single room to a double because of the extra person)

I will be co-driving the BRZ, yes. But I’ll have a little go in the mk1 MR2 and presumably the Senator (which I ‘bought’) as well. 6-7 hours a day of pure driving is doable, but sharing cars can be more fun. Plus, I doubt my 406 can keep up :)

Add the BRZ with its automatic in the mix, and the main thing those cars have in common is rwd.
I bet the MR2 is easily the most fun. More pure than the BRZ, as that’ll be ‘too easy’. The Senator, I’m very curious. I’ve driven it for a test drive, but that was on 17 year old horrible tires, no adjustable mirrors (I was blind) and a salesman sitting next to me.

Yeah I think your right, the mk1 MR2 definitely has it’s low weight and ‘old fashioned’ controls going for it. The Senator will probably be a bit boat like.

I can imagine costs being a problem. After we’ve returned you could ask Matt (Jones) about his total cost, as he’s the only Brit who’s coming.
Not that it’s going to be overly expensive, the two 4-star hotels during the trip are €30 and €50 a night a person. You can share a car and fuel costs. Still, on a tight budget it might stretch things. I’ll be without income shortly so I can imagine.

We should certainly make it a yearly thing. After this weekend we could do a little brainstorm about what we’d like, generally. And where and when.
I do hope there will be more initiative from others though. I don’t mind arranging things, but feedback at the very least and some help would make it better.

Yeah it wasn’t much money even with the added distance and tunnel costs, but I borrowed some to get me to the ‘ring among other things so I’d be deeply unpopular if I went gallivanting off again before paying that back :)

Good stuff ;) as for an early brainstorm, I quite like the idea of one big ‘main event’ ‘ring trip each year as it’s just the right balance of factors to make it work really nicely. Iconic pilgrimage in a central location for most people in Europe, and certainly affordable compared to stuff like Goodwood. Couple that with other events held ad-hoc through the year as and when people get itchy feet I think that would work really well :)
I get what you mean about initiative as we can’t expect you guys to arrange everything, especially as it’s ongoing. I’ll see what I can drum up/think of, and be sure to do what I can for the next event :) I was so enthused about the walkie-talkies I’ll see if I can save up for a group pool of them ;) that was my main thought...

Going back to school full time (second masters title), at my old age. I do live together with my girlfriend, but I’ve been financially independent of people for 16 years now, so it feels a bit odd.
