Seriously...Kinja is still the worst thing to ever happen to Gawkmodo. Every single “improvement” (except notifications) has made it markedly worse, and I know most of you agree. Today is yet another “live beta test” that I’m sure will either be quietly killed or change your commenting abilities forever. Truly building the car while we’re driving down the highway.

Every time Kinja (or any social media platform) rolls out “improvements” that actually make it worse, I just take it as a subtle suggestion that I should go outside and spend less time looking at a screen. Maybe Kinja’s “improvements” are actually just meant to improve our lives by gradually making us abandon Kinja.

True enough. But I figure if I’m tied to my desk for work and it’s not occupying 100% of my time, I want something easy and reliable.

I know that story. I was just camping in 90 degree heat for 4 days. Trying to fall asleep in 80 degree temps is hard enough, to know that your kids will wake up at 5 because they went to sleep without blankets but it’s now 50 outside is another thing altogether.

As commenting platforms go, I used to like Kinja a lot ...when it would work properly.
It was a lot better when you could open up ALL replies with one click. (Or two clicks, if you count the pending system.) But they’ve been steadily making it worse by placing more obstacles in the comment system, which is awful since the comment sections are often the best part. (Not that the article-writing is bad
per se
, it’s just that the articles make great discussion-starters.)
This new “show more comments” bar is -to be fair- only ONE more click in the way, which doesn’t sound like much. But it’s in addition to all the other burdensome clicks needed to open the comments. There is no good reason for it to be there. And it makes me all the more frustrated to think that they would spend time developing an extra obstacle like this, when there’s still so much work yet to do in fixing notifications, embedded links, and basic functionality for mobile users. It’s baffling.
