I can really get behind the idea of stancing a B5 Audi: breaking the car yourself before it breaks down.

Seriously, there ’ s something to that. Take it from a guy who has had nothing but B5 Passats for 15 years straight: Shit breaking is just an excuse to mod. That ’ s why you see so many modded Audi and VW cars. Control arms shot and suspension leaking? Guess I ’ ll slam it.

The suspension parts replacement count between two earlier B5 Audi would be 6 tie rod ends, four front lower arms, four upr frt arms, one rear arm, two rear bushings, two rear springs and one front shock. Didn’t think that was too bad for 140k and 130k miles on the cars with them being driven on not perfect roads with potholes.

If you didn’t think that was too bad, then you have VW Stockholm Syndrome :D

Lol, pretty much. I would have a stick if my wife could drive a MT. She has tried and failed, one of the rare un-teachables that can destroy a clutch in record time.

I work in a GM shop where we do some control arms with as low as 40k miles on GM vehicles. I guess its what I compare my own cars to that alters my perception.

True...but I’m sure you have a little bit of sample bias in that you tend to see customers whose cars are broken. They’re not stopping by to say “HEY DAVE, control arms are fine!!” If you want that kind of unsolicited bragging, you have to work at a VW shop :D

Slam it on purpose before it slams itself unexpectedly. I like it.
