The bonnet of the Mazda has severe clearcote failure, but the rest can easily be brought back with a light cutting compound and a good mopping.

Polishing red cars is so satisfying as you can take a chalky red back to gloss red in very little time at all.

Now tell me how to avoid having a chalkish car in 3 weeks again and we’re good :)
I did that to my Clio 12 years back, it looked great for a few weeks, maybe waxing it would have helped

A wax, sealant or coating would do the trick.

Anything that offers U.V. protection. Even my summer car shampoo, Gtechniq UVwash. It’s made for yachts and other water craft but works the same on cars. It offers U.V. protection and has anti static qualities to repel dust.

Live somewhere other than on the surface of the sun.

I think Miatas have single-stage paint rather than clearcoat though. Last I remember when working on ours, pads all became red.

Don’t overestimate early 90's Renault paint

Ye’, red paint is almost always single stage but the bonnet on that Mazda, from the picture anyways, looks like clearcote peel.
