Kinja'd!!!

EDIT: Bread boarded to avoid any shorts. Single stick of ram. No difference. Fan spins for a moment but no boot. I’m calling it dead motherboard.

Kinja'd!!!

Won’t boot. Won’t POST. Assumed a power issue. Incorrect. Assumed it’s grounding out. So far I’ve lost several screws, as per tradition.

Almost in the same boat. CMOS reset and now it won’t boot.

Kinja'd!!!

Good luck.

I’m lucky in that over my three Windows desktops I’ve almost never had any issues at all other than software (usually corrupt Windows updates).

I leave my desktop on 24/7 and the Western Digital 80GB hard drive from my first computer is still going strong in my spare Intel Core 2 machine with something like 12 years of powered-on time!

They always put extra screws in those things.

Anyway, good luck. These things are a huge time suck.

Check/reflash the BIOS?

That’s good. I’ve lost count on the number of desktops I’ve built. I think I’ve only had a couple complete failures. Counting this one. Lasted 5 years though.

I might not be far behind. Swap battery. No. Jumper on the CMOS pins. No. Tried to pull the BIOS from the OEM installation dvd. No, the computer thinks it’s a floppy. W10 disc won’t restore or reset my drive.

It worse this way because you get your hopes up for nothing. Gonna talk with one of the IT guys at work today about. In the meantime, looking at mobos on ebay. Since this computer is just a hub for Plex, I would rather not spend more that I have to since the CPU & RAM work fine. But I know it’s an uphill battle.

I hear ya. This is my gaming rig. Normally that’d really upset me, but I don’t have much time for that these days.

Catastrophic NIC failure lol. Probably a Mclaren NIC.
