I was really tempted to take my hammer and beat it back into shape, at least as closely as possible. Maybe give her another day before it fails on her.
I couldn’t even leave a note, though, because she never left the car. And I didn’t feel like dealing with stupidity in person, so I just let her be.

What’s stupid is that her ignorance is probably holding it together. Like that tire will stay on the bead forever, but let it happen to an enthusiast and it’ll fail that afternoon.

My old Corolla had a little bend in the wheel after nudging a hard curb in some ice. Took a hammer to it. Held a bead before but Murphy’s law suggested I do something about it.

It does seem that way. Every now and then I’ll get passed by a smoky old car on four different tire sizes, making every possible noise that would cause me to pull over and have it towed right away, and it just disappears into the distance like nothing is wrong.

One of my favorite sayings about a junk car is that it’ll run like shit longer than most other cars run at all. I don’t know how it works, but it seems like some cars just get to a point where they’re so crappy that nothing else is left to go wrong.
