Kinja'd!!!

2012 Nissan Versa with 67k miles and a fried engine. $1,700. 30k mile engine from LKQ is about $800. I’m hoping to make $2k on my efforts to replace the engine.

MR16DDT swap it. Pull the engine & 6spd trans from a wrecked Juke. Coil overs & it be a great auto-x pig.

I have one of these in my work fleet. It should be right around 207k miles by now.

Only 67K miles and the engine is fried??? How did that happen? I’m guessing lack of maintenance judging by that tire?

That would be a very good guess. I know the guy well. His young adult daughter drove it into the ground.

With a good engine, they’re listing at $6k.

I get how a young person would just put in gas and drive, but I fail to see how the parents (who possibly are paying for the car & insurance) neglect it as well.

If and when my kids get cars, they’ll be taught how to maintain them, or at LEAST I’d give them a once over every so often to make sure its mechanically safe for them to not DIE IN.

Yup...I don’t get it either. A car with 67K miles should not die that early...

Probably had 0 oil changes.

We had a turbo CX-7 in the shop at 24k with a engine out of time because the owner NEVER changed the oil. It was literally full of sludge, causing the cam and crank to get out of time, bending valves and doing God knows what other damage. Mazda denied the warranty due to the lack of service records. I.E. NONE. So the owner declined our $8,000 estimate to replace the engine and turbo, and let it sit in our lot till they got so far behind on payments that the bank repo’d the thing.

The other front wasn’t any better. I left them a note, but they just started parking in a more secluded spot. I haven’t seen it in a while though, hopefully because they sold the car or left the company as opposed to careened into a concrete barrier.

I saw a dude at the gas station a couple weeks ago with a low profile tire that was low on air and about to eat itself for breakfast. I showed it to him and pointed to where the air hose was, but he wasn’t interested.

The car just seems like a basket case, a blown engine at 67k and the bald tires are only the surface of all the problems that POS probably has, the interior, transmission, and likely some electrical shit, too  :(

Still, good luck though.

The interior is in good shape, and so are the shocks. I can’t start it and drive it, obviously. The worst case scenario is I keep the car and one of my daughters drives it. I’ll post my progress. My hope is to finish the job in two weeks and make $2000, which is okay money for what is essentially a hobby.

Should the engine replacement go well, you really don’t think you can’t get more than two grand out of it?

Damn. I’d buy that. 67k is pretty low miles.

Believe it or not, I put a good deal of effort into every line I type in this space. I think it’s very good training. And there are a lot of good Oppos. Oppo really is the counterexample to social media being all bad, because Oppo is pretty much all good. Amazingly so, methinks.
