Kinja'd!!!

My friend bought this beauty new less than a year ago. I was handling it today and I noticed the bald spot just opposite my pinkie finger and asked him about it. He’s lefthanded and that spot is rubbed bare by his titanium wedding ring. (You can make out the ding bottom right where he or someone else dropped it on concrete, apparently.)

The lower receiver is coated in paint or powder coating, and doesn’t hold up well, which I would consider before I bought one. For a compact ACP, I think I’d go with the Glock.

I’ve carried a Commander style 1911 for over a decade. Lots of wear on the finish.

honestly as much as I love the 1911 (I have a Springfield Armory 1911A1) there’s no getting around the fact that it’s an over 100 year old design. It’s hard to put a durable finish on it and have it still be able to be assembled and function. If I were to start carrying something it’d be my Glock 42 in .380.

yes, I know some people think .380 is a “peashooter,” but honestly, none of us are going to be John McClane. If I’m in a situation where 7 rounds of .380 can’t help me, I’m fucked anyway.

I’d want ACP with a light, frangible load and I’d settle for 5 or 5 + 1. You could use that, say, on a crowded train when some ISIS-affiliated lunatic is running around trying to slash peoples’ throats. And if I am the threat target and they are ten feet or more away, they better start running and I don’t have to waste any money on ammunition.

.380 is “ACP” too, since ACP stands for “Automatic Colt Pistol.” Thus why there’s .25 ACP, .32 ACP, .380 ACP, and .45 ACP.

seriously, almost nobody will ever ever ever be faced with a crazed ISIS mass-killing terrorist. chances are if you’re called to defend yourself, it’ll be against a carjacker, armed robber, or home invader. in such cases, you’ll gain an advantage by just having any gun at all. it doesn’t matter if it’s a .25, .380, .45, or even a full-bore .44 Magnum. most garden-variety criminals are the same as schoolyard bullies; they go after easy targets. Simply having a gun makes you not an easy target. He doesn’t care whether it’s a .45 or a .22, only that you have something with which you can and will ventilate him.

Don’t you live in CA? Carry permits are nearly impossible to get there... I’m surprised you know someone with one.

That’s some sad anodizing (?) - it should be quite hard. Titanium is pretty soft, I am surprised it would be able to do this without also suffering pretty severe damage.

I have a 900Pt ring and I take it off at the range because it gets beat up by practically everything, in spite of being much harder than Titanium.

Ya’ lernt me sumpin’ ‘bout ACP. I had no idea that there were other flavors of ACP. Thank you for informing me. But .45 is what I meant.

I owned a pretty nice Wilson 1911 parts gun at one time, but I did not like how it disassembled and I sold it. I considered buying a 10mm Glock from a guy, but it was damned big and the upper felt to me like a lot of mass moving around when I fired it. (Always been a wheel gun man...)

And yes, yes, yes to 100% of your second paragraph. And yes again. Absolutely. I have a S&W Chief’s Special in .38 that is nickel plated and with the rubber Hogue grip, feels great in the hand. And if Show & Run is the expected game, then that little revolver ought to do nicely.

I don’t know anybody in CA with a carry permit. This fellow keeps this firearm in the office at his business.

Did he holster everyday? Anything with a black finish is going to wear if you constantly handle it. Unless it’s made of composite.

My Beretta Tomcat has wear, but more importantly it’s never once jammed.

My mother in law just got a Kimber Micro 9. Ill let her know, although she shoots right, and doubtful she’ll take her ring off to shoot.

My FIL just jot a Springfield 1911 in 9mm also. Something about a bonus at work...

Those compact guns in full size calibers look cool but still don’t carry all that well and are downright unpleasant to shoot. I’ve got a friend with the same gun (not in black) and it’s has substantially more kickback than the M&P 9MM shield my wife uses as a carry gun. I carry a similar sized gun to hers, a FEG PA-63 in 9MM Makarov, it’s a little small but shoots alright and has a reasonable recoil. That FEG is a pretty cool gun, a soviet clone of a Walther PPK.

I’ve been tempted by a 1911 for a while, been looking at the Remington one. Can’t bring myself to spend anywhere near the coin that a Kimber would cost.

I have a friend who is CHP and he carries a S&W AirLite in .357 as a BUG and keeps factory loads in it and it bruises his trigger finger when he shoots it.

Yeah, those compact 357 guns are brutal. I had a taurus 1.8" barrel,5 shot 357, it was light, fit in a pocket well and absolutely a nightmare to shoot. The noise and recoil from that thing is the worst pistol by far I’ve ever shot, it was alright with 38 or 38 +p but stick at 357 round there and it was an intolerable animal.

I had a single stack Glock in .45 ACP for a while. Shot kind of shitty but it was durable. I’ve carried a Glock 19 for like nine years now with no issues. A little finish wear from me sweating all over it for almost a decade.

Have it ported by a gunsmith. Takes the hurt down a notch.

My first concealed carry pistol was a Polish P-64 that I picked up during my C&R days. With a houge slip on rubber grip, stronger recoil spring and lighter hammer spring, it was a sweet shooting little pistol with a reasonable double action pull and very, very sweet single action pull. I carried it for many years before I upgraded to a Walther PPS in 9mm.

Sold it years ago, bought it from a friend that needed cash and never really loved it.

A port would have helped with control, but very little with recoil in a package like that. Physics is a bitch, it’s like the pocket 380s (like the LCP) that sting like a mother when fired no matter what you do.

Very similar to what I did to mine. I just made some new grips though, those pa-63 have a large thumb rest which is great for small hands (my wife liked it) but pushes my thumb up too high and the slide would bite me if I wasn’t very careful.

I definitely see the appeal but the only 1911 style pistol I really like and would consider spending money on is a Detonics Combat Master.

They just look too cool lol.

Slide bite was an issue on mine also with the (by modern standards) undersized beavertail. I would wear a thin, 3/4 finger leather glove on my left hand (I’m a lefty) during longer practice sessions to keep the skin on my thumb knuckle.

I’ve never had a gun in a brushed finish, but it should hold up much better than black. Or just stick with Glocks. Can always sell a Glock easily anyway.

I’ve got Titanium wedding ring marks on my aluminum free float tubes on my AR pattern rifles. That’s why I’ve wrapped them all in paracord. Also, heat.

That’s if the attacker sees it. If you practice every week you would be good to go. Just something to consider: The FBI studied Gun fights and all agents studied only hit 60% of bullets fired in a gun fight due to adrenaline rush.

Ok, fellas, school me on the S&W M&P 0.40 compact. My mom bought the one for concealed carry and now it is mine.

Kinja'd!!!

I’ve owned shotguns and fired rifles, but pistols are a new thing for me. I’ve put two magazines through it and it seems to handle well. It’s a little small for my hands. The second magazine doesn’t have the small handle extension shown above. Without the extension, it’s just too small to fire comfortably.

Anyone have experience with it?

Scratches in the finish are pretty tiny problems, unless it’s a scratch in the finish of your buddy’s gun and you just put it there.

I know like 7 people with a CA carry permit. It is by county or residence, but most of the counties you’d want to live in make it impossible to get permits.
