4 cylinder turbo diesel that cannot or will not die with a 6 speed manual. All of the low gearing for offroading and can still get highway mpg.

I keep thinking that would be a fantastic motor to drop into either a Nash Metropolitan or Crosley. I’ve done quick searches but can’t seem to find them sold through anyone that doesn’t use vehicle VIN for inventory searches.

Honda J35Y with the 6-speed manual out of a wrecked Accord.
278hp, 252 lb-ft of torque
Enough to make it fun to drive, but also a reliable daily driver.
Then, I’d put on some wheels from a late model second gen ZR2.
And the spare tire cover...or spare wheel cover, in this case.
Or, I could go JDM on the outside and swap on some Mazda Proceed Levante parts (grille, spare cover, badging), but still go with the ZR2 wheels. A hodgepodge, of sorts.

I took a glance the UK engines are practically the same cost off eBay so shipping wouldn’t be worth it. The Germans must like them cause they were listed for 1500 euros on eBay.de

That stinks but really isn’t too surprising since they haven’t really been out long. My local pick and pull sets up waiting lists you can get onto incase something comes in; maybe I’ll ask to be on the call list for one. I can’t imagine there are too many people trolling junkyards for one.

That looks kind of heavy.... will the rear wheels still touch the ground? I love it though. My dad was a diesel mechanic, I love the smell of sooty exhaust.

i would put a rotary, and stack 3 old chevy tuck 4 speed transmissions nose to tail, and have an old gear to gear transfer case. 6.5 *6.5*6.5 (274.625) *2* diferential, say 3.42 = the crawl ration in around 1878.435.........
basically getting a small marlin crawler..........

its enough gear to pull a house off of its foundation....... the fun thing about that kind of reduction, is the control that you can have when going over obstacles. luckily you can always put them into 1:1 and move along at a decent pace..

Part of me really likes this - the idea that you don’t need a huge, high revving engine blowing tons of smoke to actually get the job done. Sure, it might not look fast, but I bet it’s a heck of a lot more effective than some of those guys flooring their rigs to get up a hill.

i am reminded of this guy...... not exactly a small or low budget build, but you can hear that the thing has some deep gears in it. and it just outright dominated a course with those monster tires, (big tires make obstacles small)......
