Kinja'd!!!

I’ve owned 17 cars in my 25 years of driving, which I gather is pretty low compared to most enthusiasts. Of those, I owned a bunch of them in the pre-cameraphone era. That’s right, youngins. Not everyone carried a camera with them at all times. The only cameras I had were either the disposable kind or a little brick camera that took 110 film. In fact, I think I had this exact camera:

Kinja'd!!!

Anyway, since you actually had to take the film somewhere and pay for it to be developed, I never bothered much with taking pictures, and when I did sometimes it would be months or years before I developed the film. Or never!

Because of that, I have no actual pictures of several of the cars I’ve owned. As far as I know, I have no pics of the following:

- 1980 Pontiac Phoenix LJ 5-door *

- 1983 Chevy Celebrity V6 (I’m guessing it was a CL) *

- 1987 Honda CRX DX

- 1991 Mercury Sable LS

- 1987 Chevy Sprint base 5-door

- 1981 VW Rabbit LS 3-door

- 1987 Acura Integra RS 3-door

- 1988 Chevy Sprint 5-door

The Phoenix has an asterisk because I’m just now remembering I might have an old pic of it somewhere, but I have no idea where it would be. I just know I’ve seen it in the last 10 years. Surprisingly, I didn’t burn it, because that Phoenix was a miserable POS. And I also starred the Celebrity because my older sister and I shared it on and off for seven years, so she might have a pic of it somewhere. The rest of the list are lost to the ages.

Anyone else old enough to have cars that you only have memories of but no real proof they existed?

I think I had one picture of my old Crapalier, but I don’t know where I stored it.

My first car was a Camaro. I’m positive I took a picture of it, but it was before digital, so I don’t have any.

I learned to drive on an old Accord, and I’m positive that no pictures exist of that, because it was an old Accord.

I don’t know that I ever took a picture of my 05 F-150 that I only kept for about a year. It also happened to be the only other new vehicle I’ve purchased. I am pretty sure that I still have the window sticker from it though.

I hear ya. I’ve got 3 past cars with only one hard copy pic and there all crappy and 6 with no pic’s at all. I don’t know which worse.

But what bums me out the most is that I had a kick ass 250r Honda quad in the early 90s and had a ton of pics of it and my buddies, and I’ve got no clue where they’re at.

1989 Chevy Suburban R1500

1990 GMC Suburban V2500

1992 Buick LeSabre Limited

I’m not sure if this counts, but I bought a 1967 GMC 3/4 ton truck in 2004 and never took a picture. I’m not sure if it counts because I sold it before even registering it in my name.

I bought the truck through eBay from Chicago. A friend of the family let me use a dealer plate to drive it home to Ohio. While at a gas station outside of Indianapolis I was offered triple what I payed for the truck (I payed $500 and sold it for $1500).

I don’t have any photos of my 1991 Subaru XT6, or my 1972 blue datsun 240z.

Well, the Rabbit I mentioned above I only had for two months, and when I sold it it still had the temp tag on it. I had bought it for $500 on a whim and would have kept it, but something severed the brake line toward the end and I didn’t have the time, inclination, know how, or enough $$ to fix it. Besides, I had a coworker who was in desperate need of a car and I wanted to help them out. I sold it to them for $250 and they were able to fix it and use it for a bit.

I wish I had pics of some of them, for sure. The Integra was awful, though. And it’s remarkable that the Phoenix didn’t ruin GM for me forever, it was so bad.

Amen to that! I’ve had a dozen cars in 30+years of driving, and currently have pictures of 2 of them.

Cars I don’t have pix of include:

65 Cutlass 2 door hardtop- beige with black interior

65 Skylark convertible- dark green, tan interior and white top

72 Monte Carlo- copper with beige vinyl top

74 Dart coupe - 3 shades of blue

84 mercury topaz. Also all blue

64 Dynamic 88 white with red interior, 2 door hardtop

90 Sunbird SE convertible, black with black top and white interior

95 Saturn sc2, turquoise

96 Taurus, dark green with grey interior

I may have taken pix of the first two, but they’re long gone—

For what I payed the truck wasn’t bad. The only rust was in the bed, but that’s partially because every panel had been replaced at some point. The truck was about 8 different colors. The biggest downside was the thirst of the 305 V-6 it had been ordered with by the original owner.

The Celebrity was actually an awesome car for us, even with the 2.8 V6 that everyone else hated. It was indestructible. I miss it.

The 85 was a cool little car. The 90 was more fun, and felt like the better car to me. The ‘85 was totaled when I got rear ended. Put them side by side in similar condition, and I’d take the 90 every time.

Yeah, it’s nice to still have some record of the VINs, just for curiosity’s sake. I wasn’t even really into cars back then, so it’s nice to be able to look back and figure out which engine I had, things like that.

Pictures, though... I have no choice but to try to find a close match through Google.

The ‘60s cars and the Monte Carlo were, for sure. The Buick looked awesome but was a POS, mechanically, and the Oldsmobiles and Monte Carlo were great cars to drive.

After that, things went downhill quickly...
