Here’s a worrying thought: Univision’s other properties all use Discus. One the one hand, you don’t have to license Kinja. On the other, it’s Kinja. If comments went to Discus, I’m not sure if sub-blogs like Oppo could continue to exist.
ETA: Oh, never mind. Apparently AV Club is transitioning to Kinja. God, I cannot wait to see everyone there freak the fuck out. It’ll be like a new Dawes album release.

oh boo fucking hoo. Gawker’s “editorial bite” came from a complete lack of any sense of ethics or decency. people working for the company knew who they were working for and what they were expected to do, so they can go whine elsewhere.
I’d much rather have seen the whole thing shuttered and bossy shitwipes like Nolan and Hongo collecting unemployment.

Disqus isn’t bad if all you need is a plugin for comments. OTOH, it doesn’t seem meant for user-generated content so yeah, I don’t think Oppo could exist within it.

No, Gawker started Jalopnik. Just back then all of the sister sites weren’t quite so integrated, so it wasn’t obvious.
