Went to go top off the fluid in the T5 thinking it would be the quart of gear oil I used in the Miata’s 6 speed and half of that would top it off. I was very wrong. We pumped in the whole quart and it was nowhere near full, then I realized that World Class T5s take ATF, not gear oil. Emptied out the gear oil and only 1.5 quarts of fluid came out so there was only a half a quart of ATF in that damn trans. Went to go take the Murdersofa to Walmart for ATF but the battery was dead, ended up yanking the Mustang battery to get the Sofa running. Stopped at Spangles for some food but then the Murdersofa needed jumped in the parking lot. Went to wal mart, got ATF, got home, pumped 2.4-ish quarts into the transmission and sealed it up all good, then hacked up the cupholder I bought at Autozone and attached it to the center console with some glorious self-starting wood screws. I have vinyl dye I’ll use to paint the cupholder the same color as the console, but I totally forgot to do that before putting it in. It is super functional, though, and doesn’t interfere with shifting. I also tossed in some OEM Ford speakers of the proper size in the rear deck and soldered the pigtails in. They sound far better than my wired-in-series 8ohm-equivalent quad 4-inch speakers. Now I just need a couple 3.5" speakers for the front...

^that is what came out of the trans. One quart of that was not original. Needless to say the Mustang shifts MUCH nicer now.

I’m surprised there wasn’t more sparkly stuff in the fluid.

Yikes, that’s scary. I’m not familiar enough with the inside of a T5 to say whether half a quart is just enough for the gears to at least reach the oil and sling it around a little, or not. You drove it a little with it that low, huh? Did it not get refilled right after installation, or is there a leak somewhere?

Didn’t think to check fluid after installation, only drove it 90 miles or so between then and now.

Man that sucks. I hope the countershaft managed to pick up some oil and keep at least some of it wet during that time. *fingers crossed*
