Kinja'd!!!

Got my first road bike today, a 2018 Trek Domane SL 5. Compared to my old bike, its stupid fast and light. It’s amazing how much 30+ years of bike design and materials advancements makes. The shifting is still pretty crappy so I need to adjust stuff still, but I’m so happy.

For a nearly $3000 bike I’d be pretty ticked if the shifting wasn’t superb. *shrug*

I wish you many miles of happiness on her!

I’ve been lusting after a carbon road bike but I only ride road once a week or so. The bikes I like are north of $3k, maybe next year. My 10 year old cannondale is still going strong it just has that nice aluminum ride.

I mean... I did build it myself in a couple hours. I’m taking it to the local shop to get a proper tune and whatnot on Monday. Also, got my employee discount so I paid nowhere close to 3k.

I love the Domane frame design. Dont bother looking at the “S” models, they dont have the front isospeeds (the things that allow comfort without compromising stiffness) and are an older frame design. The SLR models are the most expensive but not worth it in my opinion. The only plus you get out of an SLR frame is an adjustable rear isospeed, and realistically I’d set it once and never move it again. The best deals for Domanes come in the SL 6 which has an Ultegra groupset, and the yet to be publicly released SL 5 which has the 105 group. Disc versions of both are to be released as well.

There are some seriously good aluminum bikes these days, I only got a carbon one because I got a huge discount. Welding of frames has gotten super impressive as well, the welds are nearly invisible nowadays. Theres an aluminum version of my bike called the Domane ALR

This new 105 is pretty darn good, same design as the Ultegra but with more aluminum bits rather than carbon so the set is a tad heavier. But, I’ll never get anywhere near a decent resale value with the 105 on my bike.
