This is for sale on my street. My dad wants it as a car to get around town in. The guy is selling because the City of Raleigh sent him a cease and desist because he had three cars on Turo. This car was on Turo, which basically means rental car, but maybe a cut above? Rides real nice, never driven an Smart before though so I can’t compare it to one I know is sound. $3600 sounds a little high to me, but what do y’all think?

The auto transmission is annoyingly unresponsive. Lots of people comment on that. I found it to be a good city car otherwise. If you need the car to be small, maneuverable, and easy to park it’s very good. If you just need an economical car that’s not too big, there may be better options.

The engines are garbage. At 80k I’d be seriously worried about it, a large percentage don’t make it that far without burning valves or some other major failure. Probably about due for a clutch too. Imagine a Benzified French car with some bottom of the barrel shitty Japanese components. That’s what it is.
Honestly they’re great for inner city cars when they’re under warranty.

I owned a 2013 Smart Fortwo for ten months and spent nearly $1500 in maintenance and repairs during that period. Never again.

My dad once had one as a rental for a couple days, because he forgot to book ahead. He used it for a short trip with his girlfriend to see some vineyards, and hated it with a passion. The semi-auto box made him feel like he wasn’t fully in control of the vehicle which made him feel very uncomfortable, so much so in fact that his GF sensed that and felt uncomfortable too.
