!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I have these two unique shift knobs lying around. The skull is the first thing I ever bought off eBay. I was young and dumb and NEEDED this! I actually had my uncle buy it because he had a PayPal account. The second one is a ball bearing. I made this one. I was new to machining and may have wrecked quite a few endmills trying to get through the case hardened part. It’s just over two inches in diameter. It’s heavy also, I should weigh it but man when it’s in a car it makes shifting so nice.

My knob is out of focus in this picture but I just wanted an excuse to post it again.

Not my photo, but this is mine. Yes, I’m boring and have the stock one. I’m just hesitant to get a metal one and burn my hand in the summer. And I feel the stock knob is how the designers intended so I’m not too much in a hurry to change it.

So something I’ve always wondered. It’s bad to rest your hand on the shifter because it’ll add wear to some of the bearings in the transmission but wouldn’t a heavier shift knob do the same thing?

You know I thought about it but the car that I had that knob in already had a cheap eBay short shifter on it so the weight of the ball couldn’t exert that much leverage. If I we’re to put this on a truck then it may cause premature wear on the shift forks. Also, my shift knob never got extremely hot if I remember correctly. I think it may be because it’s density. But it did get really cold in the winter. Also never rusted. I really need to stick this in another car.

How awkward is it to shift that? I have never had the opportunity to shift a car with that short of a shifter? I am also assuming that you have a short shifter.

I love the BFI shift knob. It doesn’t feel too low at all, in fact, it feels just right. The factory shifter always felt too high.

I also have the Boomba short shift adapter and BMS clutch stop installed. They combine to make the best shifting ever. Short, but precise. Not hard to shift at all. The effort almost the same as stock, but it’s tighter and shorter.

Highly recommended.

Mine - an officially-licensed World Rally Championship steel shift knob with ‘WRC’ engraved on it that I was given by a good friend as a gift back in 2008 or so. Had it on my previous, beloved 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5TS wagon, and currently (with a multitude of required adapters...) have it fitted to my 2009 Hyundai Accent....fitting as both companies have run cars in the WRC over the years! :)

I also think the patina that is getting worn into it over time from my hand is pretty neat too!
