I’m wrapping up my first full week home with my daughters. Most weeks they’ll go to daycare twice a week, but this week our daycare provider is on vacation. They’re great kids, and I’m insanely lucky. That said, I just locked myself in the bathroom with my coffee, so I could have five freaking minutes without a child on top of me. They’re chasing each other around the house gleefully, and chasing the kitty. The only problem is .... I’m out of coffee. Balls.

Kinja'd!!!

Crap, now the little one is getting whiny. That usually means the big one is forcing her to do something.

My wife has left me alone with my two children. This is a mistake.

It’s pretty much your entire morning story. I’m also trying to get into the swing of summer now — working from home, with a stay-at-home mom and two kids coming and going all day. It takes some getting used to...I’ve never felt busier, but it’s fun.

Lol. I’ve got three boys 4 and under and when we get left alone it’s like a nature film. Wrestling, grunting head butting.... its pretty awesome, but for short bursts. And eventually we run out of hot wheels tracks to run down the stairs, so we have to find something else to do....

Have they started to claw under the door yet, cause if not you might be able to make a break for the coffee pot to get a quick refill and get back to your refuge. Good luck.

Opposite problem for me. My wife and daughter are out of town for going on a week now. I’m having withdrawal. Life as a bachelor isn’t as fun as I remembered.

My wife thought I had “health” issues because I would disappear into the can for 30 minutes each Sat and Sun when the 3 kids were younger. I finally had to confess that I just needed some time away from the extravaganza.

When I was a kid, my mom had a huge super long cord on the kitchen phone, so she could stretch the cord diagonally through the kitchen, around the corner, and into the bathroom so she could take a phone call in peace.

Ive been a stay home dad for 14 years. Three boys, two of them twins. Three years apart. The pre-daycare years were hellish, and the only thing that kept me from losing my mind was nap time. Hang in there.

How old? I have a 2.5 year old who inherited my height, so shes as tall as her 4 year old cousin. I routinely place things out of her reach only to find out she was still able to get them. I honestly don’t think the top of the fridge can hold much more. On the plus side, she loves getting daddy a beer.

Nice! I’ve got a 4-1/2 year old and a 2-year old. A good friend of mine, who is 6'7" (and his soon to be exwife is 6'5"), has a 2-1/2 year old who is the same size as my big one. I have to constantly remind myself how old the kid is.

When I was solely in charge of our two young children I always found it best to cram the day full of activities (exploring, adventuring, playing on the playground, etc) nowadays the kids are pretty self sufficient. The 14 year-old requires very little interaction from me and I’m just thankful she allows it. The 7 year-old needs quite a lot more attention but will entertain himself if he absolutely has to.

We’ve worked really hard to make them be able to entertain themselves. I took them outside and they played while I did yard work. They’re perfectly capable of sitting in the car for long periods of time without a damn movie playing or any of that crap.
