Kinja'd!!!

It seems to be a pretty rare thing, but I have.

Back when my husband and I were just starting out (2009) I replaced my damaged 2005 Caravan 4-cyl. SWB with this beautiful (to me) 2009 Ranger that I should have never gotten rid of. It was a 2WD 5-speed 4-banger with rubber floors and very few options. I found out later that he had owned basically the same truck, except that it was white and a few years older (so probably a different 4-cylinder). The best part of this story to me is that he bought his Ranger having never learned how to drive a manual and taught himself how to do it. And despite not being a car guy he taught himself very well. I let him drive my Fiat 500 once and I was blown away by how well he shifted, because he REALLY hates driving. He handled the 500 like a friggin’ rally driver. I’ve never wanted him more.

Kinja'd!!!

Anyone else end up owning the same car as your girlfriend/boyfriend/etc.?

My girlfriend when she first saw my 2003 pathfinder was like, wow its amazing how much that looks like my first car, but its wasn’t a nissan.

I asked her, was it maybe an infinity?

She drove a 2003 qx4 for years as her first car. Exact same as mine but with leather and all that jazz.

Her dad has had a host of cool ass cars though so that explains it. Astro camper van, couple old ford trucks, a small alfa convertible of some sort from the 80s, and a suburban 2500

Ford trucks are my jam. My dad has an early 90's F-series with 4x4, manual, and the 300-cube inline-6, and my mom and stepdad have a slightly older one with 5-speed, manual, and 5.0 V8. I like them both. I also like the old 70's & 80's Burbs.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes weird OEM swaps like this. lol

But in all seriousness I miss that truck so much. I absolutely loved the way it looked the ride height and everything. But it spun a bearing and I just didn’t have the time, energy or money to fix it back then. We had just had our second kid and I was definitely short on all of those. Ironically the Bravada then became my daily driver, my wife got a minivan (that was so bad we don’t ever speak of it anymore) and the S-10 sat in the garage for like a year before I finally gave in and let it go.

Kinja'd!!!

Also at one point I also managed to get a pair of the OEM Envoy HIDs and install them in the S-10 (and then later on the Bravada) for the weird OEM trifecta. And then when the Bravada became my daily driver I couldn’t leave it alone either so I did a bunch of weird stuff with it too like lower it on a set of Camaro wheels and run the Envoy HIDs.

Or maybe thats how Mazda created the 6!

They were very different to drive. The diesel used a lot of bits from the MPS (Mazdaspeed to you) version, the body reinforcements, gearbox, clutch, hydraulic PAS, brakes, some suspension components etc and with the added weight of the diesel lump made it feel completely different car. The petrol one felt a lot lighter and buzzy, with quicker reactions while the diesel felt heavier and more substantial. The clutch and steering are much heavier but was by far the better car for long trips (fuel economy aside) as it was much more relaxed and settled on the motorway, the extra weight and sound deadening helped a lot. Plus the diesel one had a glass power sunroof and I love sunroofs, so it was thus better!
