Kinja'd!!!

When you are driving your car after being a little jaded by it and suddenly you fall back in love with it? It usually happens in the summer, so I cant say im surprised.

The Pathfinder has been rusting away at the rear wheel wells, and although its otherwise perfect I had become a little tired, or maybe just bored of the r50.

Today I got several surprisingly affordable quotes from local body shops for a strictly cosmetic 3 years at best patch fill and repaint. The rust is all under the area of the flares, and I only really need the Pathfinder to just look presentable and be reliable wheels for 2-3 more years until I buy something a little newer (or say fuck it and get a LT1 c4). So basically, im down to spend a couple hundred bucks to get it patched up since the rest of the car is immaculate and the vq35 is running...HEALTHILY.

Well the vq35 is actually what triggered me falling back in love with the r50. I hit a somewhat short and aggressively curved merge today that I normally avoid and was going about 45 rolling in. I quickly realized I had to merge at about 75 since it was busy, so I gave it a little juice, spent the 1 second A/T downshift delay wishing I had a stick, then heard the VQ literally bark and start roaring past 5k into its peak HP range and start singing. The Pathfinder spends most of its time bogged by its 4 speed auto and cruises along with at most an audible whooosh, but when you get it past 4k it feels almost like VTEC hitting, and the car just winds out to redline making incredible noises.

Kinja'd!!!

There are many times where I wish I had a loud exhaust that I could hear every day like my 4runner did, but there is something to be said for a car that only comes alive when you really get on it. If it didnt start rusting out I would have probably thrown a Borla Pro XS muffler on it for a little extra rumble, but it sounds perfectly good as is without me dumping unnecessary extra money into it.

Anybody else fall back in love with their car recently?

That’s my favorite body for the pathfinder, such a classic look!

I’ve only ever loved my E46M3. I love it for a lot of reasons, but the main one is because owning and maintaining it pulled me out of a really bad spot in life.

However, I do fall back in love with just about any WRX or STi when I get the chance to drive one. Luckily my best friend fucking loves them so that happens often enough although hes rolling an outback at the moment.

Every time I get behind the wheel of either I’m like..

I always am window-shopping other pickups, then I get back in mine and remember why I sold every vehicle I had EXCEPT that one (I at one point owned six cars).

Thank you, I really hate the newer ones but love the r50 and its mixed capability. Take it off road or just let the vq35 sing on the roads.

And its hard to ever fall out of love for something as exciting as the e46m3, im jealous

Thats absolute proof that you will not be happy ditching it for something on a whim. Thats how I felt about my first car, the lexus gs300

I wouldn’t ditch it, but it won’t last forever. I also bought a passenger car (the tercel) which rots in my garage, so I want to kill two birds with one stone and get an access/extended cab pickup... eventually.

Trucks are nice in that pretty much every brand makes a reliable (ish) one. Its a real crapshoot with cars usually.

Yea they went way crazy with the body lines after that. I drive by a house that has a Qx4 like your Pathfinder, it’s navy blue and in perfect condition. I always oogle it.

I’ve owned the E46 for just over 10 years, I bought an E90M3 in 2013 thinking that it would be the same only better. It wasn’t. The E46 I could drive forever, it’s a part of me. The E90 got me in trouble then took me to the cleaners.

But trucks are stupid expensive, new or used. I mean you can get a old Lexus sedan for peanuts and never worry. BUT THEY CAN’T DO TRUCK THINGS

Yeah exactly, I look at is300s gs400s and sc400s all the time. Under $5k for a clean one if you look pretty easily. Trucks also rust like no other

That makes me sad because the practical side of me wants an e90m3 in the future to fill the v8 german sedan void that the e39 leaves in me. I know it wouldnt be the same but its much more modern and probably easier to maintain

Haha well there are plenty of peeps on here that had a much better experience with there e90s than I. I just didn’t vibe with it the way I have with the e46 or any e39 m5 I have driven. An e39m5 is something I’ll consider after I sell the Audi. I’ve never driven a “big” car that is more fun.

I think ill end up in a g8 GT or GXP anyways despite my want for an e39 or e46. I love big sedans that can move, so much fun
