That is quite fancy. I once visited a site-cast concrete building in France at the Chateau La Coste:

I kid you not, everything was site-cast. Walls, ceiling, floor, interior walls , and everything was cast into the concrete and recessed. Light switches, pocket doors, even fire alarm pull stations were recessed into the concrete. Place was insane, though most fascinating was that the average person had no clue how much work and effort had to go into that level of detail.

The fact that the lights are a different number of steps apart bugs me.

So, what do you do if you have to work on that light? Tear up the step?

This is a fact. I’m in the industry, people don’t seem to be able to get their heads around how complex it is to make something look simple. All those details in a traditional style home? Those are functional first and for decoration second. Every one is there to either hide the cheap and easy way of doing things or is structural. Trying to do without those details is complex as fuck.

Look up Tadao Ando, his concrete is unspeakably great.

Yeah. But routing conduit INTO the concrete molds before casting? Mind: blown.

Yes, I had plenty of research on his projects in Arch school.

Conduit is cast into the concrete. The light has a faceplate held in with two or so screws just like a light switch or an electrical plug. This allows access to the wire and connection. New wires could be pulled through the conduit if needed.

Fancy schmancy! Is that slats of wood as formwork?

I always forget who else around here are Architects/Arch grads. (I’m one, and so is Opposaurus)

I hugged the walls at the Modern in Fort Worth when I visited, so “soft”.

Gorgeous, the work surely is not for nothing, I love the simplified look of concrete architecture.
