Kinja'd!!!

Took it to the first show of the year after getting the shocks on it, and...

MY GOD. If you even touched the pedal, it was veering to the left. The shifter’s still a pile of garbage, too.

On the bright side, Pappaw had the bright idea to actually check the temp gauge and the flow of the radiator.

Gauge is off by 12 degrees (That’s Fahrenheit) and flows just fine. So at least the cooling system isn’t as scary as we thought. I may swap to discs. I know it’s a great idea and endless benefits, I just don’t know if we can afford it right now.

Adjust your drums, yo.

And if the brake flex hoses are old, replace ‘em.

We’re definitely going to check them. I wouldn’t mind keeping the drums if only for the fact that I don’t have $800 for a good kit. I don’t know how old the hoses are.

You can do a disc update on an F/X body for way less than that if you don’t want Wilwood or Baer stuff.

You can get the spindles and backing plates used for $50 or so. Rest of the stuff is available from your local NAPA.

Oh, really?

Hmmm, perhaps I need to do a bit more research.

Drums can stop good but they only have one good stop in them then you have to let them cool down.

It’s an in-town cruiser. Never sees much traffic time, really.

Hate drums. Replaced all the soft brake lines and one hard line on my truck. Pain

I put disks on the back of the Z, best decision. I go on the coast roads and over the mountain so it’s a big deal, in town I guess it wouldn’t matter too much.

I can vouch for this too. I had a friend do this on his ‘68 and it only cost him a few hundred dollars for everything. Honestly his Camaro is pretty dumpy but hey at least its got disc brakes! lol
