The dealer I bought my Mazda6 from is a Kia/Mazda/Volvo dealer. They even have two different websites:

As a result, if I take my Mazda in for warranty service, my loaner is usually a Kia (that’s what they sell the most of). Which is fine, it’s just different than what you’d expect.
What are some strange dealer combos, past or present, that you’ve seen?

I mean mazda/volvo make sense going back to the ford extended family days. so maybe they use to be ford/mazda/volvo but then dropped forn and grabbed kia?

In the 1950s if you wanted a Mercedes you went to the Studebaker dealer. That’s right you could by a Gullwing or a Lark from the same place.

Depending on how long they’ve been in business, having Mazdas and Kias side by side is not that strange given that Kia had bought old powertrain and platform tooling from Mazda a ways back, and Mazda and Volvo were formerly under the Ford corporate umbrella. There’s a Ford/Mazda dealership not far from me that followed that same rationale.
Near home we have a Mazda/VW combo, however they do try to separate operations, even though they occupy adjacent lots. The two Suzukis that we had in our household were purchased from Volvo/Suzuki and Ford/Suzuki dealerships.

For many, many years VW and Audi were under one roof. But then in the late 90s they started to overlap more and the two shops started distancing themselves from one another...you know, to reduce cannibalization and ensure that Audi mechanics could charge 20% higher rate for the same work on the same engine or suspension.
I also historically saw Mazda and Subaru wedged in as afterthoughts with other dealer groups. This isn’t happening as much anymore, but it helped them get established.

When I was a kid (80s-90s), I lived in a place with a Chevy/Toyota dealer, sharing a not terribly large building. I would have thought the die-hard domestic buyers would be opposed to that. Toyota finally got its own building a few years ago. The same town also had a Buick/Olds/Cadillac/Honda dealer, all in one building. Today, Honda is still there, but the others are gone.
I later lived in a place with a MB/Toyota/Daewoo dealer - they covered every possible budget I guess.

I worked in a dealership in NC during the 70s with Lincoln-Mercury, AMC, Jeep, and GMC light-medium-heavy duty trucks. They were just getting rid of Sunbeam parts and service so we had some Sunbeam Tigers and Alpines we still serviced for customers. We had such a good reputation that we even serviced one customer’s Bentley because the official dealership was way too far away. I guess this reputation was also the reason a friend of my dad let me help service his 365 GTB4 at the time but not in our shop, a house call.

My car came from a Mitsubishi, Subaru, VW dealership. That was 26 years ago tho. Now it’s a Mitsubishi, Chevy, VW. I actually made a post about it a few weeks ago. http://oppositelock.kinja.com/i-dont-hate-the-dealer-sticker-on-my-car-1795144591
Also the Dealership I worked at was Ford and Chrysler/dodge/Jeep/Ram. Which actually makes since becoming I don’t think an FCA dealership could move enough product to support itself. Just based on the fact that I sold probably 6-8 Fords for every 1 Chrysler Product which was usually a Jeep.

Not really a combo since they’re separate stores next to each other but the dealer where I got my wife’s Impreza is Subaru, Mazda, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram, and Fiat/Alfa Romeo.
When we were over at the Subaru store finishing the paperwork on her car, the very nice Fiat sales guy from when we test drove a 500X happened to come in for some reason. I felt bad because he saw us buying something else and I liked him better than our Subaru sales guy. But when it came down to it, while my wife loved the 500X styling, she really disliked the tractor-y rough idle and the super chintzy turn signal click clack noise.

I recall a dealer that used to be a Subaru/Suzuki one (now just sells Subarus), and another that used to be a Chrysler/Jeep/Plymouth/Nissan/Suzuki one (now is just an FCA dealer, offering Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram, and Fiat).

Audi/VW still exists in some cases...
...one example is out in Oneonta, NY. The brands maintain separate websites, but as far as I know, they share the same service department.
There’s a dealer in Lansing, MI that takes the Buick/GMC/Volvo to another level, because they also sell Mazda.

In 80's/90's Japan, you could go to one of Mazda’s dealer networks and buy a Lancia or Citroen.
Autozam dealers also sold the Thema, Dedra, Delta, Prisma, and Y10.
fini dealers sold the XM and Xantia.
Eunos dealers sold the AX, BX, ZX, and Saxo.
Not exactly the same thing, but similar concept.

That makes me think of the New Country Motor Car Group’s Saratoga Springs, NY location. They used to sell both Mazda and Subaru there, along with Toyota, Ford, and Dodge.
The Dodge and Mazda franchises eventually disappeared, but the lot on Route 50 still offers Ford, Subaru, and Toyota. Probably one of the only dealers in the NE where you can easily directly compare a Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150 to each other, or a Ford Fusion, Subaru Legacy, and Toyota Camry to each other, all on the same dealer lot...but through three showrooms.
The group itself is in New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Florida, and altogether offers Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Ford, Lexus, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Porsche (one of which is located in Mechanicville, NY, across from another of their Toyota dealerships), smart, Subaru, and Toyota.

We have a Buick and Polaris dealer combo. It’s then literally next to a Dodge/Jeep/Ram. And then a Chevy/Cadi/GMC. They all have used cars of various makes and there isn’t any barricades between lots. It would be easy to want to buy a car from one dealer but pick out a car from the neighbor.
