Kinja'd!!!

Something different? I’m in need of new tires, daily driver, driven hard that sees tracks, autox, and dirt. I loved the Direzza’s but am curious if you have any suggestions. Going for max grip, dry AND wet. Rainy Seattle and whatnot. Tires are 205/50 15. A 215 would be great. 225... Maybe? Might be pushing it on 15x8s 6ul’s.

Old tires will be kept for offroading/drifting shenanigans.

I’m gonna suggest what everyone suggested to me when I solicited suggestions, Pilot Super Sports

Not sure if they come in your size but I installed Continental’s new ExtremeContact Sport tire on my E46 M3 and I am very happy with the dry/wet performance. The car in both those conditions have so much more grip than the Pilot Sport AS3 they replaced. I have pushed them relatively hard but once I replace my brakes I can really start getting into corners and push their limits a bit.

What’s the worst that could happen?

Max grip dry and wet?

No better tire exists than the Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R. It’s less durable than the Michelin Super Sport, but it’s grippier in both dry and wet

i’m on my 4th set

Glad I could help! Dry performance is supposed to be on par with the Pilot Super Sport with better wet performance, better comfort, and come in at a lower price point.

I LOVE the re-71r’s. But.... I love the star specs even more! I spent a while with the potenzas, then switched after trying a similar Miata with star specs.

Jack baruth has a good mini review. But yeah, either way both great tires!

I have 225s on the 15x8 6ULs on my NB. I’ve used BFG Rivals and I’m currently on a set of Hankook R-S3. I think the Hankooks handle rain a bit better than the Rivals.

Here’s my latest autox on the Hankooks:

I would use a sharpe to draw tread on them.

Nope, totally impractical and overkill for a slow, auto daily. I got Cooper Zeon RS3-G1s, because $100 rebate, 90,000km tread guarantee, and comfort. They handle really nicely in wet or dry though, but nothing like actual performance tires im sure.

The new Michelin Pilot Sport 4s. Not four season tires, just next gen PSS’. Kick the crap out of RE71's in the wet, more durable, not as dry grippy, but much better overall tire IMO.

I doubt Dunlop has a real winner again with the Z2 Star Spec. I haven’t heard any serious national level SCCA autocrosser put their neck out yet for any tire over the Potenza (even though it’s 2 ytears old now) in all conditions.

yes the BFG R1-S version 1.5 may be quicker a tad in the dry, may last a bit longer, and may tolerate a little more slip angle; but it lags in the wet and is less communicative/has less resolution. The Continental ExtremeContact and DW may be a tad quicker in the wet, but they don’t match in the dry.

The new Hankook RS-4 isn’t even worth mentioning performance-wise it seems, but it is cheaper

Apparently the only other tire worth considering besides the RE-71Rs is the BFGoodrich Rival S 1.5.
