My dad is a contractor, and his safety standards are, well, nonexistent. For several summers in a row he hired this one idiot kid who wore slip on clogs and no socks. To work construction, climbing up ladders and roofs. The jackass also wore mesh shorts and no underwear. He just thought it was the funniest thing in the world to flash one or both of his balls.

I’ve yelled at so many kids over the years for doing dumb stuff, not thinking through what was about to happen. It amazes me when I find out what they have done in college and I’m still like damn that person is getting a PHD in theoretical Physics but I almost watched him drill into a piece of place aluminum sheet without any clamps what so ever on a drill press. At least he is safer with his whiteboards and computers than in the fabrication shop.

this drove me nuts at one place. the signs and SOP say pants, closed shoes required yet 1/2 the women are wearing skirts and flip flops? It drove me nuts how little safety was enforced. it was only “are you on someones shitlist? yes then you’re fucked. No? then go ahead juggling chainsaws.

Drop hot pieces of metal scrap on a croc and you will get similar but less youtube worthy results. It generally scorches and melts the surface a bit unless you some how fail to notice in a reasonable time frame.

My definition of a flip-flop would be a minimal strap and a connection made to the sole from that strap passing between the big toe and the first toe. I am happy to introduce a third category, that of reef shoe , into my thinking, but I would still generalize and say flip-flop and other open footwear.
