This is some hard shit. At what point can you or do you prevent someone from participating in something they love and gives them life because of the danger to their life ? Their responsibility is their own, but what responsibility does a community have to safeguard their citizens from endangering themselves (seat belt laws, helmet laws, etc.)?

The 19 year old son of a contractor that does work regularly in our office was just killed in a motorcycle wreck (car did a u-turn in front of him, he swerved to go around, there was an oncoming car...). His parents will be without him for ~40 years; his siblings will be without him for ~60 years...

This sucks...they have so many deaths every year. It’s really just too dangerous for modern bikes and the speeds they carry. At the same time it is fun to watch. Guy Martin was sooo lucky. I’m afraid it’s going to be him one day.

Deeply saddening, but those men have lived far more than I in their too-short time with us. There are some really dumb conversations about this on the front page right now. I get the dilemma people are having, but what a feat of human skill and passion these riders make every time they swing a leg over the bike.

“Box full of neutrals” were the words from Guy looking visibly shaken from his post-crash interview

Could not agree more. Way too much carnage at this event. Places a dark cloud over the sport. Modern $$$$$+ machines should be raced at speedways that are designed for the high speeds and remarkable handling that they are capable of delivering. Yeah, Guy Martin was way lucky and quite shaken after his crash. He has had some tough breaks at IOMTT. Would love to see him walk away from this venue and never look back.

He’s not very happy with Honda is he. That accident, would ruin anyone’s trust in their equipment. Going down on a circuit is bad enough, but Isle of Man is no place to go down at over 100mph. If there’s one guy in the world that can come back next year after an accident like that, and still ride at 10/10ths, it’s Guy Martin.

One guy?

I doubt that. I have more trust in people like Dunlop (Joey, Michael, Robert, whichever), McGuinness (my favorite rider ever....bar none), and even Hutchinson. All of those champions are well well well past letting a mechanical niggle deter them riding

All true. But as was stated above, is it getting too dangerous? Bikes will only get faster and the Isle will stay largely the same. Should they impose power limits?

If NASCAR can accept they had to make safety adjustments, then so can this long *** race over there. Its not even a “outside looking in” thing. I get that some person wanted to have a motorsport spectacle like the Indianapolis 500. But at the risk of lives, cmon.

I mean why is it so long (the mulsanne track is long hardly any deaths and look what they did they still put chicanes to slow the cars down). IMO its “fun” to see your favorite racers race again and again. Not one time and thats it.
