Kinja'd!!!

I picked up a Pilot Rexgrip pen on campus a while back after it was discarded due to what can only be described as the ink somehow exploding out the back and gumming up the mechanism, leaving the pen stuck in the extended position. Anyone know what I can use to dissolve the ink or open up the back so I can clean out the insides?

It’s a disposable pen. I would imagine it would be more expensive to try and fix it than just buying a new one.

But, if you were willing to give it a go, maybe submerging it in something that has a bubbling action in it, like an alka seltzer or denture cleaner?

I use fountain pens, which can often dry out if you’re not careful. Water is usually enough to clear out dried ink.

Rubbing alcohol should dissolve the ink. It does well on gummed up inkjet printers anyway. Given that it is a disposable pen that had the ink explode out of its tube it probably isn’t worth the time it takes to clean it out though. I would be surprised if you can get a replacement cartridge for it.

Throw it in the trash. Walk into any University office and grab functional one instead.

They’re everywhere, actually. Around 25 cents US for one.

Something like acetone or an alcohol might help remove ink. Pipe cleaner or q-tips to get inside and scrub if needed.

For some reason, hairspray will dissolve ink and carry it away. I’ve used it to get ink out of a shirt before.

Water should be enough to rinse out the ink.

I’d imagine WD-40 should work too. If you don’t have any your Oppo gold membership will be suspended for 14 days.
