Strange choice of car for a driving school

Saw it the other day and wished I’d got a pic of it (was going to pull it off my dashcam but couldn’t be bothered), just got out the shower and look out the window and there it is again doing parallel parking outside my neighbours house. Surely it isn’t the best car to choose, it doesn’t look the easiest to see out of when reversing and those wheels will be expensive to refinish when they get curbed (which they will!).

There is also a local driving school that use only new BMW’s, 1 series and X1's!

The local driving school sounds like my kind of driving school.

But from an advertising perspective it may be worth it, I mean... It got you to look twice!

Doesn’t matter, as I bet they get more business than their competition from teenage girls because it’s cute.

My driving school also only has BMW 1 Series’ and one BMW 3er GT. Nothing out of the norm here.

#marketing. kinda dumb since it is at the expense of their poor students.

I’d still take it over the Impalas my driving school had.

I could also see the case being made that they should learn to backup with their side mirrors rather than the rear window. When my truck is loaded the rear is blocked and I’ve learned to rely on my side mirrors, hardly ever use my rear view anymore.

Rear visibility is nice, but really not all that necessary.

Here in the Netherlands, the governmental body in charge of driving exams demands exams to be taken in 4/5 door cars, to prevent an instructor sitting in the back seat from being trapped in an accident, or so I was told by my driving instructor. Due to this rule almost no driving schools have 3 door cars, as that would make them unsuitable for exams. So it’s mostly boring Fiestas, Corsas, Focusses etc. Only driving schools with one car sometimes go for a BMW 1er/3er or Audi A3/A4, as the owners often use it as their private car too.

In Norway it’s quite common with A4s, 3-series’s and C-classes. Coupe versions aren’t that unusual either, and they usually have the smallest diesel available. I passed my test in an Audi Q5 2.0TDI S-line.

My girlfriend (at 31 years old) is taking driving lessons these months. Her driving school uses an Audi Q2. Quite a bad choice IMHO. She tells me the blind spots are horrible.

Maybe the dealership couldn’t sell it and ran a good deal on it.

One of the local schools here has a Hyundai Genesis Coupe V6 with a manual for one of their training cars.

Another driving school here as this cool Hyundai Elantra with a UK Police-style vinyl wrap (it’s an old hastily-taken pic from my now-extinct flip-phone, so pardon the quality and portrait mode)! :)

I don’t think we have any such rules here but most of our driving school cars are also Corsa’s, Fiesta’s etc.

I ended up doing drivers Ed in a brand new fully loaded Ford Focus Titanium hatchback. It was sponsored by the Ford dealer though and had stickers saying so all over. Maybe it’s a similar arrangement.

Maybe, but to a Canadian used to RCMP liveries of mostly-white , it certainly looks neat and stands out - they also seem to get a lot of business! :)

Most driving schools here have the instructor next to you in the front, and sometimes even another student as a passenger (though far from always the student-passenger thing).
