For a thing. But not a VW Thing. After the Jump

I got a $5 tape adapter from Amazon for the 348. I hardly use the stereo but it helps when non-car guy (or gal!) friends are in the car. Typically they prefer some sort of noise other than the engine. It works great to stream pandora via my phone through the top of the line radio from 1990. Sound quality is better than expected and it gives me the lolz to use something like this in a Ferrari.

That particular one is a POS. Get one from Monster.

Source: I have owned both; the cheapo one broke within a month and a half, and the Monster one sounds much better and has lasted at least 3 years so far.

These are the bane of my existence!! I buy any and all that I see because most of them make this insane rattle from the loose fitting dirt cheap internals. I’ve been stuck with one that is silent but has a cord that’s on it’s way out because I can’t find another that doesn’t make noises louder than the music...

This is amazing... I’ve been considering installing a double DIN touchscreen in my Suburban. This makes me want to put the stock tape deck back in. If only it wasn’t such a piece of crap.

It was $5 and I use it maybe once a month. This is just a temporary solution until I install a new head unit later this year. Plus, anything will sound better than my portable waterproof speaker I used to bring along. It works great on the beach, not so much for a car. I’m happy with it and my expectations are very low for the quality and longevity. You usually get what you pay for haha

That would be cool! I’m planning on installing a new BT head unit later this year. Looking through old articles and specs, it doesn’t actually look like Ferrari included a head unit with the car so I’m not worried about originality. They did include speakers and all the wires though.

This one seems quite. The radio is hidden behind the cover so maybe that blocks the clicking sound. I’ve only used it once or twice as I typically don’t use the radio when I’m driving. I’ll keep an eye, er, ear on it.

It is wired to the radio and has a receiver box of some sort under the dash! I need to actually see if it powers up and has snake installed. I called AT&T, and sadly, it will not work with current cell tower technology. Too bad, I kinda wanted to hook it up for fun. The previous (original) owner was apparently a hot shot lawyer so I guess he had this installed in the early 90's. I originally thought I would rip it out but the install is very clean and it adds to the 90's-ness. Also, it’s a great talking piece so it will stay for now.

A bummer you can’t activate it! I think it was fairly recently that AT&T deactivated the network that those worked on. I know it made the first iPhone unusable. Could be the Nokia is on something even older though.

Yeah, I considered doing it with my old Mitsubishi Trium Phone, it had a fold-out keyboard lid and slide out antenna! But that project got derailed when I learned my mom had thrown it out -_-

I want to say mine gives me a good 4-7 hours of battery life. The spread usually comes down to how hot it is, as heat will impact battery life, and the dash of the SL gets toasty.

My 58 Chevy had been updated to an AM/FM 8-track at some point. I would use an adapter designed for cassettes that I would plug a tape adapter that worked with a discman. All playing through two fine speakers; one in the center of the dash and one in the center of the rear seat.

If I still had the car I would’ve gone back to the original head unit and added a Bluetooth unit under the seat.

Such bad alternatives imo. Aftermarket units are ugly as hell and those bluetooth FM thingies are a pita to use.
