I’m gonna have to go with the CLK, which looks best in black series trim as seen here. The overall design has aged pretty well, and I think it wears the vintage Merc esque “dual” headlights better than anything else they tried that on during this era, including the SL Tavarish has been fawning over lately.

Kinja'd!!!

The 507 inspired Z8 is a close second.

EDIT: Nevermind! I forgot about the X308 XJR. That’s my real choice, I’ve always wanted one.

I owned one. The design is pretty inspired considering how different the layout is from the original.

Firstly let me just say that the MK2 Jag is in my top 3 favourite cars and for the longest time I loathed this car and thought it’s very existence was an affront to the MK2.

However sometime last year I found myself thinking “The S Type looks alright in green” and from that point onward, I’ve slowly come round to them.

Kinja'd!!!

I should also like say that in general I hate the whole concept of retro styling and I assume this weird fascination with the S Type will pass.

IDK man I just can’t get behind these, different strokes for different folks I guess. I like a lot of conventionally unattractive cars so take that with a grain of salt.

Technically yes. Those odd double headlights were a retro inspired thing Mercedes was doing for a while.

okay. I guess the headlights might be a nod, I wouldn’t go so far as to say the car is retro inspired, but I can see the headlight heritage.

I strongly considered one, but then I test drove a Fiesta ST, and well... I’ve had that for a year, and no regrets at the moment.

I loved the design (anything looks good after 10 years of the “New Beetle”) and also loved the concept. It’s a GTI with a sense of humor. While the GTI is aggressive and stalwart like a star athlete who’s scared to come in second place, the Beetle Turbo or R-Line plays the game for fun.

I feel like the 500 is great as a city car but probably way less practical than one of the STs

Yes the Fiata looks surprisingly good, those headlights work really well. All Rangies are great so yep 100% there on that one.

Less practical, yes. Way less practical, probably not. The Fiesta is just a better driving car in the fun department. The Fiat has the looks, the Fiesta has the drive.

For overall design I would have to go with the F-Type. Especially with the V6, manual, and rwd. It is the perfect mix of classic lines and modern tech. The hardest part for me would be deciding if I wanted a coupe or a convertible. The nice thing is the roof up or down the car still looks amazing. So honestly I think I would have to do the convertible since it is just so perfect.

I’m hoping the F type V6 will be the deal of the century at some point. Those center exhausts and the sound that comes out of them are just the best.

I agree, and I think as long as they keep them around for a few more years, then the prices should drop.

Unfortunately they were never offered to the North American market so for a legit one we have to wait until 2029. A few people have done very accurate replicas with all BMW OE CSL parts but it is very expensive. Additionally, BMW has limited the amount of replacement parts they produce and some have been discontinued. I have also heard of BMW calling service departments to make sure the parts were going on one of the 1,400 CSLs. Really the most desirable parts can be found replicated in the aftermarket like the body panels, carbon fiber roof, carbon fiber interior trim, and most importantly the carbon fiber airbox.
