Is this one of those crazy geothermal heat pump thingies? I ’ ve heard of them, but have never seen one or known anyone who had one. My yard is 6" of dirt and grass, then bedrock. I can ’ t even imagine having all that dirt and sand.

leaching field. you piss’n’shit in the pot. It then goes into a tank where the corn nuggets kernels out and bacteria digests a lot of the softer stuff. The fluids are then pumped into that, which is a leaching field which disperses the liquids into the ground. It need s pump because the ground water is too high and to be fed by gravity and must be somewhat elevated to keep the leaching area out fo the ground water. Then there is some other bacterias that digest the remainder of the shit’n’piss into ground safe muck.

How was your leaching field experience?

Tried to buy a house earlier this year, but inspections revealed a failed guest cottage system and an undersized main house system. Trying to figure out a compromise with the sellers currently...

Nice shit filter, those plastic things are way easier to deal with then the concrete ones.

Oh, wow...I’d love to ditch my expensive sewer bill in favor of a septic tank, but that looks like a lot of work. Some people can get by with just a tank, others need huge fields. The grass will be really green there, though.

Both the house i’m selling and the one i’m buying got new systems. I paid $18k for engineering and install, they paid $25k where I’m moving to. And you have to have it pumped every few years.

it was a bunch of bullshit. I bought my house 5 years ago and the system failed. Turns out the inspector from 5 years ago (most likely intentionally) screwed me over in order to sell the house.

Yeah, that sounds about right. OTOH, the sewer portion of my water bill is $70-$90 a month (Yep, insane; that’s above the $30-$50 for water) so it makes septic a contender for some people.

The feasibility depends on the local regulations, the percolation rate of the soils, etc. If the perc rate is low, the required leach field can easily exceed the square footage of the house.

My uncle’s property is primarily clay and won’t perc at all. They have to use a spray system with an artificial wetland. It’s good they have 12 acres to work with.

Mine’s almost solid rock — the ability to choose septic around here is basically on a house-by-house basis.
