Kinja'd!!!

VW Up GTI. 113bhp, and from reviews of the preproduction prototype, a very well rounded car. It’s as quick as I’d need it to be, nicely equipped and neat looking. Reliability is my only real concern, but we’ll so how they fare once they’re in owners hands. The normal Up seems just fine reliability wise.

It’s out early 2018 and since I plan to keep the Twingo until it becomes high mileage enough that it’s costly to keep going, it should be past the questionable first year of production before I look at buying one. Finally someone making a proper little hot hatch that isn’t a Swift Sport (which I also like just not as much as this). Or the 500 which I don’t personally want to own, as cool as they look and sound.

I think an UP gti would be alot of fun to drive. My gen 1 rav4 only had 122 hp and while it wasn’t enough (by a long shot) it was fun to drive, mainly on account of it only weighing 2788 lbs. Man cars have gotten fat.

What about a rear wheel drive Twingo?

Isn’t this almost same spec & size as MK1 golf Gti?

Although likely 30 years safer.

There’s a sporty version of the Opel Vauxhall Adam as well, multiple passed us on the ‘Ring. Also, would you really take an Up over a 500 Abarth if (that’s a big IF) they’re priced similarly? And wasn’t there a Suzuki you really liked?

Disclaimer: I just don’t like VWs and make it my life’s work to prevent people from buying post 2004-ish VWs and VAG-group vehicles in general. I also find it interesting that the 2018 VW Up GTI weighs more while producing less power than a 1985 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6.

A bit heavier and slightly more powerful, but yeah I believe the intention is to make something as close as possible to the mk1 with modern refinement. Which pretty much explains my ideal car.

Unfortunately everything I’ve seen suggests the the new Twingo is a bit rubbish.

The Up weighs in just under a tonne. I think it’s 60kg heavier than my Twingo but with almost twice the power.

Obviously, it’s French! That’s part of the charm. Same with American cars.

My brain blocks out all Vauxhalls. I don’t want an Abarth at all to be honest. My Panda is as much Fiat as I want to experience for this life time. I was looking at various kei cars but I dont really have the money for such a thing right now.

The Twingo became a bit rubbish when it became a 4-door (German) Smart.

yeah 997kg is what they are saying. 19.5 hp/lb isn’t the worst thing around, it changed dramatically with how much you ate that morning, but still.

I should have a generous deposit by the time I’d be looking to replace the Twingo so I should be able to get a solid finance deal on one.

Would be interesting to see this next to a mk1.

I can get the weight for frame crumple zones and safety. I would very much like to check these out. But they are on the wrong side of the world.

I have me 2 mk1 Gti in my garage, both in pieces. So just need to get them going eventually.

Na Renault has made some genuinely good cars, the Twingo is the most reliable thing I’ve ever owned. They just fucked up with the new Twingo.

I dont doubt there’ll be plenty of comparisons when it officially releases. It’s about as light as you could really make such a thing these days and have it still be a comfortable DD. 6 speed and refinement mean it should be a solid motorway car, especially compared to my Twingo.

I had no idea you had GTIs, would be really cool to see them up and running.

The Up is phenomenal but I just can’t get myself to like it. It lacks personality and slapping a GTI badge on it and making it expensive af doesn’t make it any better to me.

The other warm and hot hatches seem so much better to me, at least imo. I know that you don’t like Vauxhalls but the Adam S and Corsa VXR are great packages (though the typical owners are dicks). For the price of a new Up GTI you could buy a year old Polo GTI or a nice Mk6 Golf GTI. Even the Twingo RS from your gen Twingo is an interesting car.

I think the standard Up lacks personality too but this one just looks so right to me.

Those cars are all significantly bigger other than the Twingo RS that I do love. My main reason for not wanting an RS as much is I want to try something different.

Who cares about reliability? When the turbo explodes, just shove in the motor from one of those little handheld fans and you’ll get even more boost than stock.

Finished my finals last week (second attempt but I think I’ll pass this time lolol) so I’ve been busy. But I have this Audi 80 parked on mobile.de that I really like:

My parents already hinted at something car related around my birthday next month so yeah, just a matter of weeks. Finally

Joking aside, I quite like them too, though I think the new taillights should be replaced, they are a bit too odd for my tastes.

If you’re concerned about reliability it’s hard to beat the current Swift Sport. A lightly used one would be much cheaper than a new Up when you’re looking to buy.

I would gladly pay 3.200€ max if the car is as phenomenal as the seller states in his description and if the tank is full.

Dunno but there really hasn’t been THE perfect bargain recently in my area.

Very clean, very expensive. Interesting pick as a first car though, but if you’respending your own money I’d pick a cheaper 80.

I have about a bit less than double the price of the car but like I commented before, I’d gladly pay up to 3.200 on it. Lotta money but the 80 looks minty mint.
