The Saturn V is easily my new favorite completed model. It looks stunning with an insane amount of detail. The scale astronauts are a very nice touch

The build itself was decent. Nothing too spectacular, some of the underlying structure is neat and while it was fun to see come together it was somewhat repetitive by nature since it’s essentially just a really big tube.

Overall I give it 1000000000/10 because holy shit the finished product is simply incredible.

Super cool. You need the old Matchbox NASA truck set to go with it.

I really, really wish I could afford one of these right now. They look incredible! The fact that you can connect the LEM, and stage separation, and everything... Whoa.

Cool, I’ve got one of the older 80s shuttle models stuck in a closet somewhere. Wasn’t even aware they’d put new versions together (though I suppose that shouldn’t surprise me). The new ones look great.

Do you do Nanoblocks? If you don’t, you should. They’re tiny and very satisfying...no custom pieces, mostly just rounds and blocks of squares (with some models having angle pieces, but I don’t like those) so all the detail is in the density.

Posted about them a couple years ago on here:

Nanoblocks are the bane of my existence. I have a few sets and they’re fun enough but they’re so fragile and so easy to mess up without even noticing. At least with LEGO if I go back to make a correction the entire kit doesn’t just crumble.

I wish I could’ve gotten ahold of the mars rover when they were out. What shuttle set is that? My boys and I should be stating our Saturn V build tonight. That’s a nice collection.

The shuttle is the Shuttle Adventure 10213: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?S=10213-1#T=S&O={}

The Mars Rover is a lovely little set. As with other idea models the box is high quality with a nice bound instruction manual. It has little snippets of info about the real rover with pictures throughout the instructions as well, and the functioning rocker-bogie is fun to play with.

I hate nanoblocks, they’re far too fragile. I got a space shuttle one and it was a bear to put together without it falling apart and impossible to move around without issues.

It’s surprisingly sturdy too, it’s actually almost difficult to separate the stages. I’m a little disappointed in the LEM storage portion, it’s just two halves that attach around the bell of the SM. It’d be better if it was hinged or something so it actually split open, but I’m not sure how that would be done so I’ll take what I can get.

Yeah I really like the idea sets, especially because they are tied to some lego fan that built the prototype and they get royalties. It’s neat to support the folks that come up with the sets. I was a little behind the curve on the mars rover. I buy so many sets now that I can’t build them and display them anywhere. I have three in the basement still awaiting a time to build them. I know now that the runs on some of these are limited, so buy them when you can. It helps that my two older boys are into lego now too. A great excuse.

My parents are generous and get me at least one large set every year even though I’m a grown-ass man. It’s become a thanksgiving tradition and they typically give it to me while I am home for thanksgiving so I build it while I’m there and leave it behind - I have the Mini, the Beetle, and a big Technic race car all sitting in their house. I should really find a way to display stuff in my apartment, the Saturn V is just sitting on my table now.

I have the Sydney Opera House in pieces waiting for a rebuild....I think I might get started on that soon

That’s awesome. Nothing wrong with being grown and into legos. I really like how they’ve developed their offerings and made some more premium sets. Very cool stuff.
