When I was very little, I asked my mom how many was a “few”. She, busy doing something else and kinda distracted, answered, “more than 2 but less than 15.” That has since always been my operating definition of “a few”. So, count the dents and see if this guy is lying.
Also, be careful what you say to your kids. They take you seriously.

few = 3 - 4
some = 4-10
a lot = 10 - 100
some = 20 - (especially when talking about number of years)
